I have been running heavy for the last three days... scaled out at 80,520 with all but full tanks... I have the apu exception so really only 120lbs over. Made out it of Washington, through Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming... made sure when fueled that I only fueled till the pump.shut off, not topped off and have not filled the reefer... Got pulled into scales and weighed because it is so close, everywhere except WY where I was below half tank.
Fueled last night, same method and came to the Nebraska Scales... Weigh in Motion, sign clearly states Transponder equipped vehicles follow in cab signals... I cross the scale BIG LIGHTED signs come on TRUCK MUST EXIT so I back off the throttle and turn on the turn signal... all of the sudden, while those are flashing, I get a green light so I turn off the signal and step back into the throttle this happened at both scales, there was not a truck in front of me that activated the signs, but no one came after me, and there was a bear set up about two miles past the first scale... So I guess Prepass overrules all... until the next time probably...
So I guess Pre Pass over rules the weigh in motion...

Anytime I get the green I go, never had them chase me....
TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
i do what the signs say.. if it says follow pre pass im going if they stop me ill fight it. only time i dont follow pre pass is if im hazmat i stop at all scales...
-
In all states, Pre-Pass takes precedence. Only two states require hazmat to stop, even with a green light on the Pre-Pass, Arkansas and Arizona.
Click this link to the guide, provided by Pre-Pass: http://www.prepass.com/forms/Other Forms/Bypass Restrictions.pdfKMac Thanks this. -
post #4 is your answer...Pre-pass is the ruler except with HM in those states.
-
this was something i often wondered about, each time i went into a state where they had those highway signs. thank you for giving me some peace of mind!
-
Some states don't recognize pre-pass. WA, OR & ID use Nor-Pass instead. If you're only 500 over I don't think anybody would mess with you anyway.
-
It seems nobody reads the little tiny booklet you get with the prepass setup... There is always at least one thread per month dealing with the same or similar question...
To those stating you never received a booklet, well there's a simple way to look... just go to the website or click post #4's link.

Ive blown a fair share of scales even when they dont have the prepass on, IL on I55 south of 355 is the main one I dont bother stopping for. Most of the times you cant get over into that lane anyways because onramp traffic is so thick. And no point if I know Im right at/over the limit. Never had a bear chase me down, and never got a over weight ticket either. Id rather play dumb or claim I couldnt get on the ramp because of a 4 wheeler in my way.
