I think it has more to do with how many were born in a hospital, around all those dangerous chemicals. Glad I was born in the front bedroom at my Grandma's house, with nothing more dangerous around than my Mother's booby.

True, but taking existing spots and making them "pay spots" is not going to alleviate that problem one iota. If you figure land cost at $350,000 acre plus permits, site-work, drainage, base, asphalt, etc. You can conservatively figure the space required to back and park a 70 foot rig at about $20,000 each slot. That's a lot of money to have tied up for a bunch of drivers who think truckstop profit is too high.

I'm not for paid parking and I'm not against paid parking but the point is the parking situation in the east is going to still continue to get worse as more trucks are forced to sit more and more minutes every day.

True, this does not alleviate the shortage of parking situation. It does help in a driver looking to find legal parking, at a late hour, though.
In the 90s, the Great American, originally Jarrell's Truckstop, at exit 98 in Doswell, Virginia, added 100 spaces, for a cost of 5 million dollars. I can't blame them for trying to recoup that kind of expense.

It could be worse with ma and pa selling out to corporate truck stops what will stop them from bringing back paid parking with out reserving a spot like it was back then.

My carrier recently paved a trailer parking lot in concrete - stressed to deal with 80,000lb vehicles. $1,000,000 per acre.

I see this conversation is still going round and round, refusing to just flow into the drain.

How about we have some reserved parking for people that actually spend money at the truck stop? It angers me when I go there and drop a bunch of money for fuel and would like to shower and sit to have a meal and there is nowhere to park. Have some spots closest to the door for the people that buy 200 gallons or more. Have some more spots, further away for people that only buy 100 gallons or more. Every other spot should be a 50 gallons per truck minimum to park there. In the truck stops that fill up at night I think this should be a requirement. Now if you are going to stay for a couple of days, the requirement could be that you purchase the equivalent of 50 gallons per day.

If you don't want to spend any money there then you have no business being there. If you think truck stops are just raking in the dough then perhaps you should open one for yourself.

This post was not directed at anyone in particular.

First of all, thanks for your service to our country. My one comment about my service wasn't meant to be the focus of my Post. The person I was responding to made a couple statements about what we have rights to do and what we don't have rights to do. You should know that part of our service is to help protect those rights. My comment was a reference to remind that person that I get the whole RIGHTS thing. Sorry you missed the point. Maybe you should read both Posts again. I didn't say it had a thing to do with pay to park or the Price of tea in China. Read the whole thing and try not to focus in on one small reference comment. I understand why you like the idea of having this Reserved parking system. I get it. You don't like to pay but still believe it's worth it. I don't want to pay and don't believe it's worth it. Thus, you support the pay to park idea and I don't. I believe that is the main point of this Forum. Shame on you for the whole PRICE OF TEA IN CHINA comment. You can do better! Lol

If you want to get into the rights debate, it is the right of any business, in this country, to charge for any product or service they provide. It is not the right of anyone to have free parking, except on their own property, but then you are paying for that property by either buying it, or renting it. It is also your right to chose which business you do business with.
