Ironic that LaHood is a R-E-P-U-B-L-I-C-A-N........

Just like a politician. Changes their mind like the wind.
But, really, Lahood is not the founder of the EOBR. He just loves them. Must be because he owns stock in them. Never was a friend to trucks when he was in the state.Working Class Patriot Thanks this. -

Now to be fair to you here, some of the carriers are pushing this because they are trying to gain some sort of edge in public perception. Just like some carriers are so worried about how "green" they are. They have succumbed to a PC line of thinking that if they cater to the PC crowd they will benefit. And another factor is who their customer base is. Some customers are looking more at how compliant and "safe" a carrier is, and also playing the "greenie" game. Things have become so politicized, that customers (also falling into the PC game) are demanding some of this stuff and a carrier needs to play those games to keep those good accounts. On the political side, some of these carriers are wanting this stuff only as a way to keep government from taking too close of a look at them. Not a whole lot different than paying protection money to a mob boss to keep them from messing up your life. This e-log and green thing that a lot of carriers are pushing is primarily motivated by the same line of reasoning... if we jump on the bandwagon then government is less likely to mess with us. The same mentality is behind the push on the sleep apnea thing. You know.... "Yes Massa, we is behavin' like a good carrier should, so don't beat us no mo".
While the conspiracy stuff about running off the smaller carriers and individuals may play a factor in a few carriers, I am not convinced it is a major factor with why so many carriers are doing it. I have had several discussions with the owner of my carrier and the other high up folks, and I can only glean that is was all about economics and compliance issues, and I could sense from their comments, that it was like paying protection money to the government in the form of playing the government's game by jumping on the bandwagon and looking like they are behaving like a good carrier should.
I realize it is easy to assume that it is always an "us against them" game and buy into conspiracy theories on this. After all, conspiracy games are intriguing and have been so since the beginning of time.Last edited: Dec 2, 2012

Am I the only one that wants to see the backlash that will happen if they do get a new rule in place, say that 8 hour BS some are pushing? I would LLOOOOOOOOOVE to see some new regulation cause a huge epidemic on the delivery of goods.
