I am on home time right now. I go back on the road tomorrow. I was lucky this time and had a load that dropped the trailer and was able to go home bobtail.

there starting to send me stuff on leasing a truck ---- any guys have thoughts on it - probley going to wait till first of year -- havent talked to any O/Ops that said they were not better off now then in a company truck --- 62 mph just aint cutting it out west lol should pick up an extra 300 or 400 miles a week just having a faster truck --- most say its better to get a truck on your own if you can swing it but you have to have some money tied up from day 1 --- 2 other guys are going to from my class -- my girlfriend is still planning on teaming with me , probley in spring and then i think its a no brainer when your getting that many miles - 2 people paying the bills-- any body have any thoughts

Thanks for starting this thread. They are sending me a bus ticket to leave on Wednesday, December 5 from Houston, TX. I have over 18 years of 22 foot stake bed truck driving experience. I just got my CDL on November 6 so I'm kind of green as grass. The wife has our benefits so I'm good to go in that area. I'll keep everyone posted on my progress. Wish me luck!

I received a robocall about two weeks ago telling me about the program and letting me know I should contact a recruiter. I have not talked to anyone yet, but I am 95% certain I am going to do it starting in January. I am going to call them the first of next week. I figure that it's my only way to make money since .29 a mile is low. If I lease I level the playing field when it comes to compensation. Yes, there's more risk, but I don't mind. I would also love to be able to do 65, or even a little more out West. It really sucks trying to pass someone who is governed at 61 1/2 mph, LOL. I have thought it all out and once I lease I will do it for 12 months and then move on to another field. I just can't see myself doing this for more than two years.

I also had my first, and LAST, "incident" the other day. I had backed into a dock and I wanted to straighten out. I serpentined over a little bit and backed in again but I still needed to go over just a little more. I hate being a perfectionist. Anyways, as I pulled forward I moved over to my right. Since I was turned to the right I could see where my trailer was going and I could see that I had room. Well, as I turned left and away from the truck on my right and continued forward, my trailer door on the right came out more than it was and touched the mirror of the truck on the right. Of course whenever one truck touches another there is damage. My trailer door cracked his convex mirror. The rest of the mirror was fine, but his convex is going to need to be replaced. I hate this because I always get out and look when I back, but this was going forward and I did not think about the trailer door swinging out. The damage is as minimal as it can get, but it's still going to be an incident. It pisses me off more than I can put into words. I do everything they taught me at the academy, but I never thought about my door swinging out. Lesson learned - the hard way.

do you latch your trailer door to the side of trailer so it doesn,t swing out?

I am teaming now. I will say that the paycheck from teaming is "nice".

Do any of you guys have info on their lease?
    ~ Walk away?
~ Does the payment amount they give you include the insurance on the truck?
~ Do they pay loaded AND UNLOADED miles?
~ Do they pay tolls and base plates?
~ Is there a balloon payment at the end and how much?

Yes. Even with the chain it can still move 3 to 4 inches. I have started using bungee cords too so it does not move at all.

Who are you teaming with? How many miles are you driving per week?
