Who pays for the wrecker? LEO or the driver/OO/carrier? Heavy duty wreckers are wildly expensive...and there are a few carriers that will smack you with a preventable just because a wrecker was called, costing you your job and your ability to locate another job.

If Americans cannot be found to fill needed truck driving positions, it could very well end up that the trucking companies will bring in truck drivers from Mexico. This has been done with other industries. This could cause pay scales to go down much further. The trucking companies could very well end up working with the federal government on this one.

That is not the LEO's problem or concern. Surely this not new information for you.

in all truth, how can anyone justify any of the fines we are subjected to

i have heard of $400 for a marker light out, $500 for not drawing the line down on your logs, and other outrageous fines

$2750 for talking on a cell phone, plus $11,000 to the company

whats to stop them for making it a capital punishment?

now i hear they are upping the fines for HOS violations, up to $2750, what a nice round number

Name calling is not beneath me. Capitol punishment is out because while it's cost effective, it doesn't generate income. Taking money from the same dudes, over and over again is an excellent source of revenue. I'll agree that fine for stupid crap like having lights out and log book not current are uncalled for, but I'm all for citing dudes and dudettes that can't put the phone down.

HOWEVER, if it's going to be enforced it should be enforced across the board, cite regular drivers. LEO's should lose their jobs if they're on the phone and driving, I can't think of a reason why they would be exempt from the law. So let's all get on the same page and enforce correctly. The only thing worse than not having any regulations are regulations that are not enforced correctly.
