There are "natural born drivers." Not very many. Chances are you're like the rest of us- the 99% who need some work to keep us out of trouble, learn how to back up and maneuver a large vehicle without getting in an accident, drive in rotten weather, in awful traffic (at a crawl and at 65 mph,) do all the necessary paperwork, learn to plan trips (late isn't tolerated here,) pull heavy loads while getting great fuel economy, and the hundred other things you have to be a master of to do this job right. Those couple of months aren't a very long time to get that done.

Or we could throw you in the deep end like most everyone else, and you can pray you get it right the first time.

You're more liable to get one in the flatbed division, but they do exist in reefer. You need to have experience, a good record, and especially 100% on time. No one is going to get one slacking and getting in trouble, and a lease operator will have a much better chance than a company driver. You're going to need a good relationship with your FM to convince him that you deserve it as well. I know folks who have walked into one of these situations with much less than 10 years experience.
