Don't assume the worst until you experience it.

So you haven't even spoken to any potential employers and you are talking lawsuits? I'll tell you right now that attitude will get you nowhere at all in the patch either side the border. Personally just stay where you are apparently that sort thing flies there

so you think maybe lawsuits will scare folks into hiring you? is that where you are trying to go with this? In the oilpatch word of that goes around the office and the patch very fast. don't walk down any dark alleys if you go that route. come to think of it you will have very few friends either. your co-workers have all sorts of legal ways to make your day waaaay harder and even really unpleasant all without doing anything you can pin down in court.
    JUST DON'T GO THERE

Behavior that is legal or not is very very hard to prove any sort of discrimination case in a job like this especially in an environment like oil patch work.Performance only counts and they don't want people to sit and cry about how it is unfair and how they always get screwed, they want people to work. Not pointing the finger at anyone, I work with a few who seemed to be looking for something to blame for their problems on and are too sensitive for the work they did always yelling about how unfair life is, so when someone start right from the start looking for things or fishing for things to blame others, they limit not just themselves for that work but also get a reputation that is quick to identify by others around them which further can cause problems.

not upset at all. can't tell on the net who's joking. just saying it would give you a very bad rep in the field. I was trying to say the same thing as ridgeline, cept he said it a little better.
come on out, prove you're hard working(by oilfield standards), can handle less than tropical weather without whining(not just you), show yourself willing to take advice and you have a great future ahead

I,m white with an American Indian last name, over 6 yrs exp working on the world,s strongest drill rig. Drop the blade on a d9 and mow everything down to make a road, drive 24 plus hrs straight with 300,000 lb super tankers. Work on the mud rig dumping 100 lb bags of betonite quicker than you can blink, rip threw 6-7 lded flat beds, unld the flat beds, get every pallet of mud on the mud rig, when the rig needs drill stem, you jump off the mud rig. If the 28 k vises can,t break the drill stem loose, because the 100 in diameter reamer is torquing up the drill stem, ya grab a 200lb tong wrench by hand with mud up to your waste and operate the wrench, the rig is at 39 degrees also. Then race to the crane swing the drill stem onto the rig wide open, then race to another crane getting a pallet of mud, then back 4 tankers up to the frac tanks, hook all the hoses up unload while, you run 12 other pumps, repair pumps, make another inline pump that I invented, on the mud rig, check mud pump lubers and pump, rebuild the 600 hp power mud pump. You get the idea, you fly around like Bruce Lee on crank, many other job dutys are on you, like inventory, drill stem inspections, order 200k of products a day. I have over 1 million miles after that job, including 5 years of tanker, 3 years of 1 tank co. running mainly Chicago to service the eastcoast 18 to 38 hrs straight, ran 3 log books. Over 1 million miles with a perfect driving record, renewed hazmat, passport, osha10,twic card, can bench double my weight. I job hopped the last 4 years, that,s the only reason I can think of why I can,t get a job out in the oilfield. Had the 40 hr hazmat course every yr for 6 yrs for working on the rig, all kinds of safety test to work on oil refinery property, how to maintain a 28 cylinder train for rail plowing, etc. I see exp oil field drivers on craigslist, looking for work. I didn,t give up yet on landing a job out there, but I don,t think it,s going to be easy.
