After 3 no-go's I got assigned a company driver mentor that actually showed up to get me and didn't care about me needing an inverter for my CPAP machine. I didn't know the inverter was on me so I had to quickly buy one and take it to the shop at Mira Loma to be installed today. Mentor is taking 2 days HT so we are heading out on Thursday morning.

He's got a positive laid back attitude, said the truck is mine to share as is his fridge and microwave. His only rule is no shoes in the sleeping area. Sounds easy enough to live up to.

He mentioned a new pay scale that just started for students but I can't find any documentation on at the swifttrans site. If I remember correctly he said the pay is now minimum wage for all on duty not driving time and minimum wage plus $1 for driving time. Can anyone confirm this?

    Thanks for all replies.

Good luck out there. I would say, if you where my student, I would have one of the same rules, no shoes in the sleeper. I have wall to wall carpeting.

Congrats on getting a mentor. Eyda and Sara said mine won't be avail until after the holidays but that's cool I guess. Just so I get one. Yours sounds like a good match, hope mine goes as well.

In orientation (October) was told $450 for weeks 1-4 and $500 for weeks 5+6. I think making minimum wage pays more if you're busy and not waiting for loads. Either way it's finally a pay check!

WTF! Not getting paid to sleep. What is this reality? Just kidding, it would be nice to get paid around the clock but I only ever had that when working on call as a nurse... but them days are over :(

As a future mentor, not real sure if I am going to like that hourly. It just might make the student want to push longer on a day when not needed, plus 70 hours is 70 hours, and for one, I am not one that likes to take a 34 unless I am home.
