    Good Morning Everyone. :)

I am seriously considering CDL training and employment with Stevens. I am impressed with their focus on safety and the length of time they have their recruits on a truck with a trainer. I have a couple of questions though. I have read that Stevens is kind of a stickler company as far as medicines are concerned (quite rightly, IMHO) and I am wondering two things.

About 10 years ago I went through a temporary depression due to the death of a close friend and the ending of a seven year relationship. I took anti-depressants for a couple of years to get me through the hump, so to speak. I have not taken / needed any since then. Will that bar me from employment?

Question 2. I am extremely phobic about flying. I have a prescription for anxiety meds from my doctor strictly for use during flying only. Will that bar me from employment?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Probably yes on both. I would not mention either because:

    1. 10 years ago is 10 years ago, one time, it's history.
    2. Stevens trucks don't fly, take a bus to Dallas. Flying phobia is OK but taking drugs for it will probably raise a red flag. Just tell them you hate flying because sometimes they fly you out to meet your trainer.

    Slickshoes Thanks this.

Thanks for the heads up! :)
I'm wondering now if I don't mention it if they will be able to find out somehow. Do I have to provide medical records?

I wouldn't mention the anxiety meds for flying. It's not germaine.
As for the anti depressants? I'd answer truthfully if directly asked.
I was in the hospital once for hemorging from surgery for a deviated septum. During the treatment the doctor used cocaine to restrict the blood vessles and stop the bleeding (one of the legit uses of cocaine).
I told Stevens about my surgery, but I never mentioned their having administered cocaine. You can imagine what that might have brought!
Answer truthfully if asked directly, but never volunteer any information.

    Slickshoes Thanks this.

One of my CDL instructers was really impressed by Stevens. He said that it was the best company that he's ever worked for.

I've got a couple of questions, though.

My girlfriend is already driving, and is currently a CR England trainer. I, on the other hand, just got my CDL yesterday. I don't plan to go to England, so she is prepared to move to another company. Does Stevens have a "train your partner" program? It would be nice to get on a truck with her immediately.

My girl and I have a dog. Is it possible to bring him along?

And one last question. This summer, I would like to bring my 15 year old son out on the road; he'd get a kick out of it, and the bonding time would be a good experience for the both of us. Does Stevens have a rider program?

They wouldnt let her start being a trainer right away. Even with her being experienced she would have to go through an abbreviated training program as well.

No, you can not have pets at all, sorry.

To have a rider under age 18 to go with you, you would have to have at least 1 year of experience.

Corporal Clegg...I see that you have only been a "trucker" for two years. How long were you with Stevens before you decided to become a L/O? Thanks...

As soon as I qualified for the lease which was 2 months solo. I dont regret the decision at all. I have done very well.

Corporal Clegg...Thanks for the reply. I start training in Houston at the beginning of January. Any words of wisdom for my first six months?
