I started driving in Oct. '81, running team up and down the eastern seaboard for an owner-op out of Ct, .for $15 a weekI was 16 years old and my Daddy was 1st seat. I droev at night and he drove during the day, till I joined the Navy. When I got out, I got a job driving flat bed for a pile driving crane operation. I made $7 an hour. Before I got out of trucking, I was an owner-op skate boarder. My tractor was a 220" wheelbase, cab-over International with a self-loader boom mounted to the chassis. I specialized in coast to coast transport of utility poles up to 105' long on a 48' composite spread axle. I averaged between $2 and $4 dollars a mile.
Starting pay what did you make your first driving?
