If you do it through Averitt it costs 500 dollars out of your check.
I like this company but if I had known then what I know now about having to wear that machine, I would not have done it.

There is no cost if the test determines you are okay. Otherwise the $500 covers the test, machine and everything.

The whole process cost me 40 dollars in copays through my insurance company. My doctor said that he has never tested anyone who doesn't have at least some amount of sleep apnea. Once you are diagnosed with it, you must forever disclose it and provide proof of treatment per DOT regulations. This includes sending in the memory card from the machine when the company tells you to.

The test is, in my opinion, a formality - you will be found to have it. When I started with Averitt their doctor only gave me a temporary medical card good for four months, which will be up in about a two weeks at which time I will have to either be tested or be terminated. I like this company also, however, I am almost decided I am not taking that test which results will follow you the rest of your life as well as being forced to wear a machine over your head during sleep for the remainded or your working career. That said, I believe all companies will be forced to do it before long anyway.

All I can say is I was diagnosed with sleep apnea 3 yrs ago. No matter what treatment my doctor gave me for my blood pressure it stayed high so she recommend I take the test. Well I was bent out of shape about having stuff hooked up all over my face and head but I will tell u this, my train of thinking changed when I found out I stopped breathing 120 times in less than in min.yes 120 times, It really made me look at life different. Realize sleep apnea could be a factor in causing heart attacks and stroke. I realized it so I embraced the treatment and the results have been great, my blood pressure stays low now and I feel better everyday now.i had a severe case lost a little weight and it is not bad as it was. Being that I have been sleeping with this machine for about three years even before I came to Averitt I would say take the test, not only because the job requires you to but for your quality of life. That's just my 02 cents and good luck everyone

I've heard others say the same thing that were put on the machine. Also, as a bonus, they seem to keep you from snoring, which your wife/girlfriend would like. I've also had others say that they would never admit it to the company but the machine has helped them a lot. I'm in no way saying that they are not very beneficial - I just seem to have a personal issue with it which I will either have to get over really quickly or either be terminated. In all fairness, however, I was made well aware by Averitt, at orientation that I would be required to take this test and to use the machine if required to do so. I just thought I could get over my mental block about this machine by now.

I was a skeptic about sleep apnea until I got tested over 12 years ago and ended up on a cpap machine. It has been a life changer. I am a big ole boy. About 80 pounds overweight. At the time of my test I was 150 pounds overweight. Since being on the cpap I don't get drowsy and fall asleep during the day. I was actually getting 2.2 hours of rest in 8 hours of sleep because of how often I quit breathing. If you have it...quit your whining and get the machine. You will get used to it and you will feel so much better for it.

The first night I had the cpap my wife kept checking on me because she thought I was dead. The snoring stopped immediately and she was not used to trying to sleep without a freight train sound next to her in the bed. A buddy of mine who was tested about the same time I was refused to be "forced" to use the cpap and ended up dying six months later in his sleep from congestive heart failure. I miss him to this day. End of sermon.

Friday I was in Atlanta at our Fulton yard after delivering in Alpharetta. Got a load to pick up in McDonough, GA and take it home for the weekend. Ironically when I got home we got in the car and headed to my mom-in-laws in...McDonugh, GA. I left out last night to finish off the load in London, KY. Got dispatched while getting unloaded to head over to Burnside, KY and pick up a load headed to Villa Rica, GA. So my last three round trips have been KY to GA. I am hoping to see some different terrain tomorrow. We shall see.

I hope the miles are good for you. I ended up with 2300 for last week.
