What I've seen in nursing homes, nurse's aides do all the dirty work. RNs and LPNs, basically, do meds and chart. There are a lot more male aides, than rns or lpns.

@squonk you would apply for that... and I dont think so

@wrangler I agree with what you say. I know it wouldnt be easy at all. Good thing is I believe most jobs have to hold your position if your in the military. We got a guy on leave now.

I think you're right about them having to keep your job for you. One way to build up your confidence and challenge yourself, is to get into fighting shape and start mixing it up. If you've got a good MMA school near by, that's attracting all the talent nowadays. Otherwise, whatever is big in your area, is probably the thing to do, if you haven't already. Boxing, MMA, Jiu Jitsu, they all work very hard. Also, great places to network, if you're thinking firefighting/cop jobs (also, very high status jobs).

I met one guy who owns a club and used to run a beer truck, I think his wife's a nurse. Of course, he likes what he's doing now a lot better. Mostly, I think, because of the status and the glory. He's hard as nails, over 50 and he gets a lot of respect. He's not unique, especially in Jiu Jitsu, there are some very tough old men.

It can get discouraging, but if you keep your head screwed on straight, you'll grow to love it. And then, boot camp should seem like just another challenge, with a group of highly motivated men, with above average character.

I know next to nothing about this kind of thing and am interested to learn, btw, but it does sound like a great opportunity to spend more time with your kids, while they're growing up. Not having enough of that seems to be one of the top five things people regret when they are on their death beds.

I want to do MMA classes. When I was layed off I was about to do so, but ended up going back earlier then I thought. I hope I get the night switching position so I can do so. My friend whose currently in is going to help and coach me through!

Like you said its always good to try, do my time, if I like it I stay in, if not then im done after my term... I wanted marines but found out army has a 2 year term now... which is a little better than marines. Not sure if air-force has it...

Well Im back to full active work duty tomorrow. I hope they give me back my tractor. I cant driving the straight trucks anymore. they took one guy out, and gave someone else his truck, then took me out of my tractor for a straight and put that other guy into my truck... dont really understand it

Well I will say at the time I was all in. Of course I had just turned 18. It was definitely an accomplishment. Once I hit 35 or so, I was like screw all that crap. Been there, done that. I would go to this bar once a year in Coronado, CA and see some of the old guys and some friends I was in the Navy with. They would start talking about the old days. Did that for about 7 years, then I just lost interest. I more or less joined because my whole family was in the military. I was kind of pushed into it by my nut Vietnam Vet father. Looking back on it, I am glad I did it but now that I'm older, I question the things we did. Had some really fun times in there and some really bad times too. I'm sure it is the reason OTR trucking has never really bothered me and also appealed to me. I was used to being away from home.

Back to work today. My boss is being extra nice today which is a shocker. Making sure I'm ok, allowing me to rest if needed. I'm wondering what he's thinking. The asst boss/dispatcher is the same as always ( he's cool). Gonna wait another week before I work out again though

FINALLY got my tractor back!!!! Guess blowing an engine in one straight truck, then blowing the tranny in the rental (neither were intentional) when I clocked in I looked at the truck and it had my truck on it. For the trailer it's a 40' with lift gate which was required on most stops but that doesn't bother me. And they sent me up the farthest away we go (50 miles)
