My netbook has had too many issues and I was looking at a tablet.
Does anyone know if Eclipse logs will run on tablets?

I presume I need a windows tablet since Eclipse doesnt do Android or IOS yet.

    Suggestions?

try bigroad app. i haven't used it but it looks like the best thing for android. if you have a tablet with gps and you connect wifi so it has access to the internet. it'll even pick up your location.

as for your netbook. google instructions for wiping the hard drive and reloading it. all your software and operating system reside in a hidden partition that you don't have access too. all laptops are designed that way. i don't even think computers actually come with the cd's anymore.

course, if you happen to still have your owners manual. that will explain how to access that hidden partition also for a destructive recovery.

unless your issues are hardware related.

once you wipe and reload. you'll have a brand new netbook as if you just bought it again.

any time you have issues with software. it's usually something wrong with the windows operating system files. people go for years with a screwy computer. it's not uncommon for me to start over about every 6 months. i like my machines running like a great ape.

being as how you have a netbook. it's a fairly painless process. once you access that hidden partition. it does everything for you. just make sure you save any information you don't want to lose cuz everything will be GONE.

My netbook had XP on it once upon a time. I got it (used from my daughter) and loaded win7 on it.
While it works fine, win7 requires too much HP to run on this old machine.

I cannot load XP on it no matter what I have tried...it always stalls at the same spot.
I asked ASUS for a recovery DVD, which they sent me and it too, stalled at the same spot during XP install.

So since it has 7 on it, its a dog...even with a ton of ram and a SSD hard drive. The CPU and video card are too old.

How are you trying to re-install WinXP? I would guess that you need to be able to reformat the HD before installing. I've not tried that on a netbook, so I'm not sure you can reformat the drive. Reformatting wipes everything off, well not really. It just deletes certain files/markers so that it can be re-written to by the OS you're trying to install.

The stalling may also be due to insufficient RAM (memory) for the temp files needed to install the OS.

OS recovery CDs generally do not have all the necessary files that a full blown OS install has. They look for existing system data on the drive, and just reinstall over them. It's hard to explain through a forum post.

Does your recovery CD give you the option to reformat the drive?

It doesnt appear that there is a windows tablet I guess. So I will wait until the android version of Eclipse comes out. (if ever)

I had one of the old HP TC1100 tablets when I worked there. Awesome little machine and bummed they discontinued it. FWIW the main thing I liked was using MS OneNote for handwritten notes in meetings. I don't think I'd like to use one much for Eclipse logs. If you do get a tablet, make sure it has a true digitizing stylus and not a cheaper pressure sensitive one. The former has much greater precision for handwriting and other tasks you need fine control on the cursor.

As Eaton18 points out there are newer, better ones on the market. I'm kind of partial to using a keyboard and went the ultra-light direction. Currently a Macbook Air with Windows 7 in Parallels for Eclipse and other Win-only apps I want to use. I know HP has the Envy and other major PC makers have similar models. Those or the tablets come with a premium price, but worth it to me not to be lugging a 5lb portable.

there are TONS windows tablets. specially with the newly released windows 8. but they won't be cheap.

windows 7 requires 2 gigs ram. 4 would be better. when netbooks came out. 1.5 gigs was the max. although they only come with 1 gig.

netbooks don't have rom drives. so i'm guessing you bought a usb dvd rom drive. usually when windows stalls out on installation. one of the memory chips is bad.

since your having problems. that's starting to be what it sounds like. how much memory is recognized when you get windows booted up????

when i need a new laptop. i look for the cheapest thing available. they don't seem to last very long with me as it is. but moneywise. a cheap laptop can do EVERYTHING compared to some other options that people like to think about getting.

Yes, it will run on any Windows tablets. There are some out. And as Windows 8 spreads over the coming months there will be more models and lower prices, as with everything new. Android and iOS are on the development roadmap still, but I do not yet have a timeline for those.

Windows Surface tablet. My contract is up on my Xoom next month, and I will be tablet shopping. The Surface is at the top of my list because of the logging software available and it's a real computer and not a glorified cell phone that doesn't make phone calls.
