I got my CDL this past summer but haven't been in a truck since august. I have read a lot of negative things about CRE but they are willing to put me through a 10 day refresher before I go out with a trainer so I am going to give the company a try. I have a couple other companies that will hire me but I have to leave my present job and go to orientation and pass there road test. I think I could pass but I can't gamble my families security on something unsure so CRE here I come. I will be starting in Dallas on 1/7/13 and I will update here as often as I can. I was told phase 1 is 18000 miles and phase 2 is performance based can anyone give me an idea of the time I am looking at for phase 2?Also would the 18000 miles be truck miles or miles I drive? I trained at the FFE Drivers Academy in Fort Worth but during the OTR training i had to go home for an emergency and when I was ready to go back they said I wasn't eligable for rehire so I have to pay them for my training now.

Please be careful! Cre has a history of ruining people . If all possible take a refresher on your own so cre doesn't own you. Once you have your refresher , there are many training companies . I am a trainer for one , people retire from! Merry Christmas !

have you called werner or even swift? i mean theres a ton of stuff out there about cre. i saw a cre truck pull into the fuel island at the fj in laredo last week. it was like a clown car. 4 guys got out of that truck. 1 trainer and 3 trainees. i talked the the "trainer" he said it was great, his truck was getting a ton of miles because it never stopped. he said the only rule that he was breaking was having a trainee sleeping in the top bunk when the truck was moving, but that the trainees didn't seem to mind.
best of luck to ya where ever you end up! -
How about some advice from someone who was fed the promises by CRE like you are?
Don't go. They will lie right through their teeth and drain whatever money your bank still has in fees and 'administration costs'.
I was 'promised' home time once a month. I went home 5 months later, broke, truckless (I made their truck payments for them then sat for days spending what little money I had to survive) and having to pay my own airfare.
The horror stories you read on here are probably being kind (so they aren't banned from saying what they really want to say).
DO NOT LEAVE>>>> find an alternative company.

Grezz Fink, you have 25 years & CRE did you like that ? Give us " the rest of the story" I wouldnt touch that place even if I took two years off..I got my 16 years of driving and any company that tells me I've been away to long and I must start over at the bottom, well they just dont get my services.

..."it was like a clown car".
LOL! Were they doing juggling tricks and such?
Every time I see a CRE truck from now on that will be the image in my mind

Try Swift. They're probably the best starter company out there.

Phase 1 is 20,000 miles or 30 days on trainer's truck. My last six students all got company positions.
