What are the expectations from when I start my orientation? I am definitely no expert driver from the CDL school I came from. I heard I have to perform what I did in school. What would I be evaluated on? Maneuvers? What if I'm not good enough for them??

90 dock, backing between 2 trailers, serpintine backing,45 backing, ability to drive the truck, shift gears, pretty much the same stuff you did to get a cdl in the first place. they seem to work with you if there are issues at least thats what they did when i went through there for some that had issues.

    pharrari Thanks this.

They just want to gauge your skills and will work with you to better them. Unless you start flattening barrels and banging trailers you will go out with a trainer. They expect you to come back after those 5 weeks and be able to drive the truck. OR 1 is more about ensuring you have some basic understanding of driving a truck and are not showing up with a license you got because your favorite uncle happens to work at the local DMV.

Relax, for the most part the ones who do not make it through OR I are sent home because of dirty drug tests, failed background checks and undisclosed medical conditions.

Thanks guys for the assurance! I've been very wary from the time I went to the trucking school mil I went to, the internet said its a scam and such so I always find myself asking questions as to the worst case scenario. I'm definitely a clean guy for the drug and background tests, no issues on that at all.

    I graduated from TDI.

Isn't that what you all call "CDL trucking mills"? Schools at which they get you in and out for 3 weeks and charge a lot of money?

Ive never called any place a CDL Mill. To me a CDL schools job is to get you a CDL. If you now have that CDL then they did their job. 3 weeks is plenty of time to learn how to pass the CDL driving test. As for the money, yea they do charge a lot, but with the exception of local Community Colleges that can take forever, most CDL schools no matter how long they run, charge a lot.

Anyway, welcome aboard. I hope you take your training seriously and I also hope you do well and are succesfull in your new carer path.
