It MIGHT be reasonable IF all truck stops had the same branded WiFi, which they don't. So far, two truck stop WiFi providers have gone out of business leaving their subscribers high and dry, with Siricom being the latest.
It MIGHT be reasonable IF all truck stop WiFi worked, which it does not. Sometimes you can only get a signal inside the truck stop. Who wants to shop for frilly underwear with people looking over your shoulder? Sometimes, a signal from a competing truck stop WiFi will boot you off, even though that "other" truck stop is miles away.
It MIGHT be reasonable IF you could always stop at the same truck stop chain every night, which at times in impractical.
It MIGHT be reasonable if using open access points was safe and secure, which it is not. Not only that, but if current proposed legislation is passed and signed into law, there will be no WiFi anywhere. Proposed legislation would require ALL open WiFi to monitor EVERYTHING that comes in or goes out from their IP address, looking specifically for "illegal" images. That includes all WiFi providers, from your Public Library, access at McD's, Panera, your local truck stop, even "Joe Sixpack" will be forced to monitor every "image" being sent/received at his own house.....or face crippling fines of $250,000.

I went with sirricom for 1 month to try them. I got 2 use it twice before they had a dispute with their server. They had a recorded message that services would be extended after the conflict was settled. They will not answer the phone or email. I told them I wanted my money back. Now the phone just rings with no recording.:biggrin_25516:

I'm sorry I told you about 'em. What a bummer of a deal. So you're out 20 bucks for a service that didn't get provided to you? I hope it's not more. Twenty bucks is still a jagged pill to swallow, but not as jagged as 50 or 100 bucks. Of course even those dollar amounts aren't worth a law suit.

One thing I liked about using T/A's wifi is you could pay for it with your Roadking points. I know I've told you this before, but others on here might not know. However, if what Roadkill said is true, then it really won't matter and getting an air card would be the best/only way to go.

Crow don't feel bad. I asked you remember? Besides you had no idea. I hold no grudges against you. Wasn't your fault. It is not the money issue, I think it was 25 bucks or so. I filed with the BBB. It is that I just don't like for companies to take people. It could have been worse. I could have had a year subscripion. If I pay for something I expect to be able to use it or get my money back. I am looking at other options now to get online. I seldom use TA's that is why they are out. I use mostly pilot's, loves and petro's

What I said about the proposed Laws in reference to the Owner of WiFi being responsible to monitor everything for "illegal" images is what I heard on Leo Laporte, the Tech Guy on XM radio last week. I am looking for supporting documentation on the web.

I you don't carry a laptop, need one or have time for one....then why do you even involve yourself in this conversation?
In addition, do you drive 24 hours a day? DO you think everyone else in this forum does?

Again, why even involve yourself in this conversation? I thought you didn't have the time. Better get out there trucking and make some more money.

I use the Sprint Card. $59 a month. Faster and more connections than AT&T (who I use for Cell phone-I have the Net on it too.) But I wouldn't even think of any other services.

With the Sprint Card, you can be sitting at a Shipper or Receiver, and be connected. In fact there are very few places I don't have service. (Maybe some spots in WY. or NV. Very remote spots.) But for the main part, I love it...
It's well worth every penny of it if you're like alot of us, and are an Internet Junkie!

I started out with the Flying J-Wi-Fi. It was alright IF I was parked there...
But most of the time, I needed to be parked somewhere according to my hours, and destinations...not always at a truck stop. (And good luck in counting on finding a spot to park in one anyway!)

Actually, you might be surprised to know that if you have ANY cell phone reception (even Roaming) you can use your Sprint. (shhhhhh, don't tell Sprint)
