I'd rather get no courtesy lights than a high beam during the night!
There's many threads about this already. But yeah, common courtesy and proper use of courtesy lights is going out the window as all these newbies hit the road -
on newer trucks the lights dont come back on as quick. i think thats why more drivers give you the high beams. plus its not legal to shut your headlights off at nite on the highway (even if its just a flash)

Can you elaborate on this claim?
Thanks.
A few interesting links I found.

I interrupted my headlights to signal my comfort zone from the first day I hit the road. Fortunately, I had several "crusty" experienced drivers to teach me the proper way to operate my truck on our nation's highways and be a good citizen to other drivers. Being a "newbie" has nothing to do with it. It's how open we are with our trucking culture to those coming in. Is there any other profession that has that complaint?
It seems to me that those that complain the most about new drivers are some of the ones who are stingiest with their knowledge and experience. Not all, just some...Withholding that information from someone who is new is almost like willing them to fail. No wonder so many of them try and leave in less than a year. It's a very lonely and scary place to be without any support.carogator Thanks this. -

Speaking of driver courtesey, I had a car hauler pass me on 93 between phoenix and vegas the other night. He noticed that I was shooting sparks from my curb side drives. Got along side me and let me know on the radio. I started to pull off to the shoulder and he also pulled over. Came back to my truck with his flashlight to give me a hand. Turned out that I had a piece of my chains dragin.
I thanked him for his help and shook his hand. His response? !"Any time driver, thats what were supposed to do."Bumpy, Hammer166, Logan76 and 1 other person Thank this. -
I ain't mad, I just figured that with so many newbs teachin other newbs, old courtesies are going out the window.
As far as my International, the only way to turn OFF the headlights is to pull the parking brake!(thank you masters in DC who think I'm too stupid to run my own headlights). Our company Freightliners can turn off the headlights but it's a heck of a reach.
As the guy at our shop that regularly hot-swaps between cabs for other guys, sometimes it's a PITA to find the switch in a heartbeat.
Also last year we got some temporary M2's from Penske with the full LED setup. I don't know what kinda headlight bulbs they were using but they were so bright I kept getting angry flashes from other truckers. It's not ME! If you want, I'll get back behind you and unleash the FULL HELLFIRE that these things REALLY put out! Who's brilliant idea was that anyway? -
Well I sometimes pay attention to the trucks that I think are highbeaming me, because my father in law just got a new t660 and its headlights are BRIGHT on the low setting, so if its a newer truck I try to give the guys the benefit of the doubt that their trucks are on the low beams....older trucks I just cuss them under my breath.
