Hello all. I'm needing answers from current drivers at Marten and Schneider. But first let me describe my situation. Ok I'm 21, haul scrap metal, grain, equipment, etc locally. I get home most nights. I make around $550 a week. I still live with my mom since I don't make enough to get my own place. I want to buy my own house. But I'm gonna have to get a better paying job to do it. I've got it down between Marten and Schneider. I want straight up honest answers from current drivers at these companies. I don't want people answering me that's never drove for either of them. If you drive for Marten or Schneider currently, what's it like? The pay? Miles? Home time? Dispatchers? Pros and cons? I'm in West TN if that helps. Thanks in advance.

i am not a current marten driver, but they were decent when i did work for them. average miles was well over 2500 (more like between 28-2900). got along with MY dispatcher/fm, but only had the one. he was receptive to me calling and letting him know when i was having a bad week mileage-wise, and would try to compensate by getting me a "good run". usually grossed over 1k per week. of course some weeks were better, some worse. didnt have issues with equipment. my experience overall was positive, and is now about 4 years old. take it for what its worth.

a little under 2 years with them, and left for local work...a business venture honestly. a venture that was in the gray area of legality...my name would suggest what it had to do with. moral of the story is, dont go into business with family, especially in laws.

I get payed $10.50 per hr M-F. My boss is cheap. He's the only guy that'd hire me when I was looking at age 18.

The guy is trying to find out information. He wants to move on and drive a truck. No need to point out his budgeting.

Ok Voltrucker... I am not to sure about Marten other than the things I have heard. Personally I would not drive for them. However, I do know about Schneider because I drove for them and I am actually in the process of hiring back on with them.

Schneider's starting pay I believe is .36 cpm. I was on Western Regional and I would average between 2100 to 2300 miles per week. All trucks go 60 mph. Electronic Logs, GPS built into the Qualcomm too. Right now Schneider is getting rid of older trucks and has been buying new freightliner cascadia 2012's. From what I hear from my buddys that are still with Schneider some are being equipped with APU's. With Schneider you have Regional opportunities, and different accounts/fleets you can try to get on with. I think they got rid of the Wal Mart account this year but they have the Dollar General, a Tanker fleet, intermodal. Schneider is has Lease purchase but it is difficult to get into. They dont push the L/P on drivers AT ALL.

As for the company itself. Best company I ever drove for. I am stupid for leaving the first time. The Dispatchers are called DBL's (Driver Business Leaders). I had 2 DBL's at Schneider and they were great. You can call them and qualcomm them. I usually call (I get answers faster). At any OC (Operations Center, aka Terminal) you can walk right in and see your DBL and talk to anyone in the office you need too. Everyone is friendly, seems to good to be true but I am not joking. Sometimes when things get backed up things may take some time to get handled but it does. My DBL's always remembered my name and even my Driver number.

If you show them you can do the job and do it right, they will give you good loads. However, at times you got to take "some" for the team and you will get a short haul load or get stuck doing some local drops/pickups. But your DBL will thank you for it by giving you a good load after.

They take safety very seriously. If something is wrong with the truck they will fix it. Overall, they take great care of their drivers. Yeah some trucks and trailers are orange and they go 60... but, it is a great company. That is why I am rehiring back on with them.
