Its funny when I was doing my walk around inspection after school I would use my GTA IV game got get a rig and spot a trailer and get off and walk around the truck reading and reciting my inspection over and over. Hey it worked I passed it on the first try! I passed pretrip, air brakes ,manuevers and driving in one day. PS. GTA San Andreas lets u hook up trailers and drive around. I practiced backing up all the time

Make certain you understand what Permit your school requires prior to enrolling. In Texas, you can take just the Texas Special Requirements test and get the Learners Permit. However, you must then also pass the General Knowledge, Combination, Air Brakes and written Pre-Trip tests prior to taking the Driving Skills test.

With the school where I am enrolled (and the first week of classes is devoted to preparing for the following tests), we must pass five tests at the DPS in obtaining the Learners Permit prior to being allowed in the trucks for skills training. The five tests are: General Knowledge, Air Brakes, Combination, Pre-Trip and Texas Special Requirements (obviously, you won't take this one!). Don't spend any of your studies on tankers or doubles/triples endorsements until after you pass what's required.

I am aware of some trucking company schools that require you to have the Learner's Permit prior to arriving for their driving skills training, but it's a bit unusual for a private school not to include preparation time in the classroom as part of the tuition to help students pass the written tests. How many classroom hours are included in your training? If it's only a 120 hours, that could explain why you have to get your Learner's Permit prior to enrolling.

My school requires 200 hours of training (10 hours a day, five days a week for four weeks), the first week (50 hours) is devoted to "book learning" directed toward readiness to pass the required written tests, how to do pre-trip inspections and introduction to the Log Book and Hours of Service (HOS) and, oh yes, a dose of "trucking lore" war stories, etc. lol

    Good Luck!

I'm good on the PMDG 744 (FSX), so I wonder if I can take a real one for a dance on the tarmac. Hmm

the school said i only need knowledge, air brakes and combination. i went to go take the test today, i past everything except Combination. i noticed on this website, the CDL Combination test, NONE of the question on the test, this website gives. WASNT on the combination test for Maryland.

Just wondering, if there anyone on here, that knows a website to study for combination test for maryland only.

Congrats on passing those two tests! The tests are not State specific (except, as in Texas, there is a separate State test), so study Section 6 of the Manual. Also, check out the CDL training materials at Trucking Truth dot com, particularly the one on Combination.

Mainly because it saves a ton of time and frustration for the school (you ARE paying for the time really) and those who pass the permit tests waiting for those who cannot. If the school requires the permits in hand, they can get the students in the trucks and on the range on day one.
