    (as best I can...)

I'm trying to figure out the EXACT meaning of all the information given out at the meeting that happened in Porterville on Saturday, but let me tell you, alot of it might as well be written in GREEK! Ancient Greek, at that!

So far, what I have gathered is this:

Starting on Jan 1, 2010 every truck that runs in CA must have the proper catalytic converter system, or must be 2007 or better engine. These systems run in the range of $30,000- $40,000. And it is not just for CA based trucks. This applies to any truck, from anywhere, that runs anywhere in the state of CA.

There are a few other deadlines in 2011-2013, but I don't quite understand them yet. I will gather more information on this tomorrow. (I'm really, really trying, but my brain only absorbs so much information at a time!)

By 2014, your truck had better be 2007 or newer, because ANYTHING prior to 2007 is JUNK! Even the ones with the converters that these people just paid $30,000 for!

To put this in a nut shell, it will cost my hubby's employer 2.8 MILLION dollars to comply with this law! And this won't even bring him into compliance with the proposed regulations for 2021!

I'm sure you can all see which way the wind blows here....

The Anti Idle Law is headed for the Courtrooms, but we are still going to try to bring as much attention to it as possible.

If you have any further questions, please let me know and I will TRY to answer them. I have all this paperwork in front of me, and let me tell you, I really, really feel like a true BLONDE!

I can see some of the point of these rules, but remember while trucks do run more than cars, if they are going to restrict trucks and what years emissions standards they have on them from entering the state, then they need to take a big long look at the cars, buses and motorhomes which enter the state also...
I know they will not go after the motorhomes and cars as they would have to do battle against AARP and other groups... Lots of power in numbers, but truckers well we are fair game in many locations.

Restricting the trucks will not solve the whole problem and the anti idleing push will not solve it either. But they think it is a step in the right direction. You will not see much of a change in emissions output, as the levels are going to stay the same I feel. It will just take and make more vehicles do the job now as people will start relaying loads at the state lines.

So why is everyone freaking out now? And why are they fining now? Why not give everyone a chance to get the proper APU for heating and air conditioning by 2010 - that's almost three years - three full years if it's the END of 2010.

Doesn't seem very fair that they're fining now when there is no alternative for those poor drivers. So glad we don't run out west.

The anti Idling laws go in to effect on 1 Jan 2008, Brenda. This is a different set of laws that we are working on, these are the ones that beyond a shadow of a doubt will put many small-medium trucking companies out of the game. I'm sorry I should have mentioned that!

Ouch! Where's the common sense in that? Has anyone who's putting these laws into effect bothered to comment on what truckers in broiling hot or freezing cold trucks are supposed to do then??????

I may well be time to boycott CA. And yes, that 20 grand is flushed as far as the Ca Air Resourses board is concerned.

I am NOT braindead, nor are any of my people! Blonde sometimes, but not braindead! LOL!
