Great plan. I sort of have a similar plan but I might try to get established as a carrier then put my son in the truck and create a nice cushy office job for myself in retirement and run the truck from home and pay him a decent wage to drive
Starting orientation/training next week CT Transportation

Well as far as I think and I'm sure mph would agree with most of this as well, but I see it as a decent company overall. I've been home every single weekend since I started in late April, never had a problem with any staff (except for some lazy mechanics in unnamed terminal locations), its a good place to get a . START in flatbeds. Pay is fairly low from what I hear from other flatbed drivers, starting at 30.5 loaded and 20 empty but it starts bumping up little by little pretty quickly. Now I havent had this problem yet but what I hear from older drivers is that if you hit the 40cpm mark your miles will drop like a rock.. so most drivers get experience at get on down the road. As for the equipment..thats where my main problems with CT are.. the tractors are 2005 and newer but have been rode hard and put up wet, and the automatic trans give more problems than anything. Most trailers are also in just amazing states of rusting away and such and some of the 45' trailers are older that I am.. Don't get me wrong we dont have a 100% junk fleet but the better things are just harder to get ahold of. But they have said that new Internationals were in the works to replace the ageing Mack fleet but thats been being said for a good while now so I'll believe it when I see it. So pretty much from my point of view I take having a slightly worn truck and being home every weekend over having a brand new truck and living in it months at a time, but hey that's up to you

Orientation is kinda fuzzy for me.. but best I can remember it wasnt all that special, it's alot of taking small tests like you're in CDL school again and listening to guys tell you if you look at a truck the wrong way it will flip over and burst into flames killing famlies of small kittens.. but for the psychical tests I honestly cant remember the details.
