Not necessarily the dock, just the truck entrance. MNDriver mentioned that NavTeq actually drives all of these roads. It seems that it would be a simple task to include when the roads are actually driven. I see your point, but as a consumer purchasing a specialized product, I consider this to be a required function, and a major oversight.

edit: I know you're just the messenger, and I'm hoping that you'll pass my comments along to the marketing team. They're the ones that will probably be most effective at pushing these suggestions through.

That would only be half true.

Having worked for the DOT and working on a project logging EVERY pedestrian cross walk, you can do really good just looking at a computer screen. You could also very easily pick out a truck entrance if I had to sit down and pick out a wheel chair ramp on a city street.

It's not "forward looking" on Navteq's part that they dropped that ball. Someone in project planning could very easily make that a part of any project to start collecting that data set rather easily.

How much does RM wish to pursue it though?

The answer to this question will heavily influence my next GPS purchasing decision.

Lots. Truckers rely on your GPS to help find them. It's not doing such a good job of it at the moment.

I used these for surveying for the MN DOT.

It's rather easy to do the job. Just time consuming if you must go to the field.

The nice thing is, I was also able to sit at my desk and ID other places that I had to go and take measurements. And it would give me a coordinate that was within a foot of where I needed to go.

We were required to also measure actual slope and width of ALL pedestrian ramps in the entire state on US and State highways. Thanks ADA.

so is it possible for Navteq to produce it. Absolutely. With as many offices/field reps as well as being able to write software that would ID about 80% or more of the feature. Very easy to do.

Yop. Instantly. Use it all the time.

It can be hard to spot at times. Normally bottom left area.

All locations of all Docks in the US and Canada would have to be found. This would be a street by street search. I have been to many a location that was in a neighborhood. You would have to be able to see street view and look at each business, then tag it with Lat/Long.

This would be a long term project if any. NavTeq finds each business by the "front" door.

    Thanks,
    mark
