Stevens does not allow ANY riders under the age of 12!!! Also, NO PETS, not even on Alliance (lease). The pet policy used to be in place for all drivers with a deposit, but that was done away with a couple of years ago with existing pets 'grandfathered' in. You could possibly do the rider thing as an Owner/Operator with Stevens, I'm not sure, but Emulsified will know for sure when he checks in.

I just wanted to thank everyone who has answered questions about Stevens and gave me personal experiences. I faxed the paper app in yesterday and have to call in to recruiter Monday. I already applied on-line but they require a paper app. I am attending MTC ( St. Louis) in March. It is a partnership school with Stevens. Again, thanks to everyone who has answered questions and gave guidance and experiences.
JTRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
Only 1 rider at a time
No riders un 10 yrs old at all.
If under 18 you have to have 1 year solo
For over 18 you have to have 90 days solo
There is more to it as well.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
TRKRSHONEY and KMac Thank this.

I think you guys are being overly judgmental on having a wife and 8 year old on a truck. All people are not the same. I know as a kid I would not only have tolerated it, but would have enjoyed it for a time. I also know that some would not tolerate that kind of situation well at all. Traveling is an education in itself that not many get to experience. If I were to be in their situation I'd try to commit to a year and then freely offer a change and see what the decision is. I know that there are those who have done similar things on small buses and campers and it worked very well. I also know that's not quite the same, but not overly dissimilar either.

Not sure why you would consider someone citing company policy judgemental. Someone asked a legitimate question and someone provided a factual answer. Nobody was making any judgement. -
Clegg quoted the rider policy correctly. As for pets, only those grandfathered in from about 5 years ago.
There are many shippers and receivers that won't allow trucks on site with a pet. Remember, our largest commodity is food.
As for kids, riders, etc?
I took all my 5 kids on the truck from time to time, but only one at a time. They loved it, but became bored within a couple days. Of course there was no TV, video or anything else like that. (my youngest is 35 shortly)
But we had a lot of books on tape, old radio shows ( I have thousands on cassettes) and similar stuff.
Talking with my 36 year son recently and he told me, "Pop, I can't make a road trip without a CCR or Kingston Trio disk."
Guess I did have some affect on them.Dryver, TRKRSHONEY and Corporal_Clegg Thank this. -
