I agree with this and everything else that has been stated by BLH. Now I have not heard from the senior drivers not getting decent miles after getting to the 40cpm mark. Not saying it isn't the case, but haven't heard this myself. I have talked to two of the most senior guys out of my terminal and they seem to still be fine with CT. One had 26 years and the other over 20. I got lucky with the truck I have, so far no issues. They do NEED to upgrade their fleet and their TRAILERS! I like the fact that when I call dispatch they know exactly who they are talking to. I am not some number. That is very important to me. The bigger the company the less they are person with you.

The orientation physical is a DOT physical pretty much like the one you have already gotten to get your CDL. They add the 'cough'. Haha. The fitness test is no big deal. Overall I am happy with CT and yes, they go outside of the SE region.

thanks for the feedback....ive been doing flatbed work for six yrs, buts its been on a dedicated fleet out of gboro nc. it got me home everyday too. trouble is i was laid off a yr ago, was outta work till oct and ive been doing flatbed work for 3 months only getting 30 hrs a week. so now, i need to find something that will get me home weekly. the tarps ive dealt with in the past have only been maybe 70 lbs? and ive gotten the forklift guys to lift them 95 percent of the time. im worried that in any orientation i may go to, ill have to lift a TMC tarp (120 lbs) up to the trailer etc....im 5 foot 6 and 166 lbs....so kinda short and aerobically not in the best shape. i can do flatbed work no problem out on the road but im a little worried about guys with clipboards watching me and i dont want to waste anyones time ya know? im calling maverick monday, and hell maybe maybe TMC....im calling CT as well....

Well, I am much bigger than you and will say that the tarps are between 90-125lbs and the forklift guy will not always be available. They will want to see you lift one on an actual trailer. We had a little fellow in my class that came over from Maverick, he left because Maverick was not getting him home as often as he wanted. At this time of the year, freight is slow, which you probably experienced when you ran before. But dedicated probably doesn't slow down as much as us OTR guys. Good luck with your decision.

Yeaaaa tarps can be a pain at times, mph I'm sure you've ran into this with CT's tarps where some seem twice as heavy as others! Although if you've ever helped a Cypress driver untarp they have some that are UNGODLY heavy, pushing 150 lbs if not more..

i appreciate all the feedback. im sure i would be able to lift one up there lol....might take everything i got but oh well. what method do you guys use? is there a better way to lift than others? before i would roll it up as tight as i can, then crouch down and lift with it kinda against my chest and heave the heck outta it on the trailer lol...wasnt pretty but i got the job done lol...

Thats what I do. Ask if others are around. I always help others when I can.

BLH, I have helped a couple of cypress drivers, but never really paid attention to the weight. Some tarps we have are most definitely heavier than others. I manhandle them all!!! I am a beast. lol

hey mph... I managed to get hired as a part time driver delivering 44 ft roll off containers and 48ft van trailers used for storage here locally. Started today.. So hopefully Ill be able to use that as recent experience after a year or two if I decide to retire from the fire service and get on the road. Thanks for your info maybe Ill see you over at CT sometime in the not to distant future.

Hey mph1972, I'm bout to start school at xtra mile driver training in bishopville, sc. ((Idk of you know where that's at)) and I have been talking to a recruiter from CT Transportation and she told me I would be pulling out of the mocksville terminal in NC. What terminal do you pull out of?? I stay in Cheraw, sc ((near Florence, sc)) and I was wondering how often do you run that way. I was trying to see if I might get some home time during the week. Do you get any hometime during the week?? Where do you stay?? Was DC training a good school?? I'm in the national guard so I have drill on the weekends so are they good with getting you home on the weekends. Do they pick you trainers that are near your home?? Or do they just give you someone?? Do you know if they offer lease purchase?? Thanks for your help any advice will be greatly appreciated. I'm ready to start trucking!!!!

First of all. DC Training is an awesome school. Great instructors and David and Cori are great people and very hlful. Highly recommend the school. I have a buddy that drives with CT also and he lives in. Cheraw, but his terminal is Savannah. I'm actually parked at the Mocksville Terminal now. I pull out of Funder here in Mocksville quite a bit. Not bad at all. I like this terminal better than the Savannah one. I am home every weekend. If you know that you have a drill coming up let them know as early as you can. Keep reminding them throughout the week and they will work to ensure you are back for the drill. Hope this helps.
