Flatbed rates i was quoted today

The only thing that pays LESS than lumber is deadheading.

Lumber=cheap freight!

 

I don't feel so bad about the $300 on 142 anymore. What the hell is the matter with brokers now days? I agree with what a guy said when I was complaining about rates last week. It's time to start taking brokers out behind the barn and punching them in the face repeatedly for insulting us like this.

 

Don't assume it's brokered loads. The OP said they are direct freight.

 

But, most of the time they are brokered loads. Its sad the broker in some cases makes more than the driver.

 

I used to backhaul Universal Forest for 1.90 pm all direct.freight. May not have been top dollar, but considering everything else in the SW Wi. area was only paying 1.05pm back to Ohio I was happy. Lumber can pay if you get the right customer.

 

I'd love it if I could find those cases... I've never had that occur in my 10 years of doing this.

 

I hauled a load for a broker once that had on the paperwork the freight rate total of $1200 to go 360 miles. I made $377 on the load. Any idea where the rest went?

 

Where the problem with this comes from is who decided on hauling the load for $377 on 360 miles? There comes a time when the driver outta know better. If you know a broker is ripping you off this bad then why haul for him?
