That's where we have different views, I'm not that concerned about the DOT or violations that drivers may have. I'm more concerned about lawsuits. So documentation is a key to keeping happy. If you are forced to leave by a customer I want documentation, what we do with it depends upon your documentation. For the most part I just want to see that you're making your best effort to follow the regulations, enough to a point that I can convince others that your intent wasn't to cheat.
Why CSA 2010 and E-Logs are a good thing.

Actually not even that extreme. The 10 hr is not interrupted in any way. I may have spent 6 hr in the sleeper and took the rest of the time off duty. There is NO REQUIREMENT that ANY of the 10 hr break be spent in the sleeper! How much I spend there or off duty is a non issue. Now if I wanted to split things, then I would need have logged a full 8 in the sleeper. But if I cannot do that due to moving the truck, then I just finish out a complete 10 hr break. So, noooooo, volvodriver01, there is no violation of HOS regulations.
Some of you guys had better figure out what the rules actually say and how to use them to your advantage if this mandatory e-log thing comes about. You have a lot of catch-up homework to do. And surprise, surprise.... it is NO different than what a person should be showing on paper. I never had to "fudge" the books to move the truck in a similar way before. I just flagged the off duty with a personal use driving. Simple, huh? And no issue if I got stopped right outside the gate by a Barney the DOT cop. Had that happen once in N. Kansas City. I was driving off duty to leave customer property, unloaded, and was stopped and checked. Had the paper log on OFF DUTY with a flag saying personal use. No citation, no problem. Just a "have a nice day".Last edited: Jan 12, 2013
Ghost Ryder Thanks this. -
And like has been stated clearly, your biggest problem is not the DOT or the safety office. It is that aggressive lawyer that wants to make you and your ancestors scream for mercy because you ran over his client and you did not do things correctly. I could give a rip about what someone in a safety office has to say. I know the regulations and I know what I need to do to cover my bacon. And documenting what I am doing is part of it.Autocar Thanks this. -

This was asked from somewhere else and I thought I would use it.
[h=1]Should Semi-Trucks be banned from the highways???[/h]Any time I turn on the news, I notice most accidents are caused by semi-trucks and it sickens me, because such a large truck can cause a lot of damage. also, the drivers may suffer from lack of sleep which could be dangerous. should things transferred through semi be transferred through trains instead??? because trains, there's a smaller chance of crashes, and they stay on a track. some semis lose control, and one driver got away with killing a family even though he was under the influence of alcohol, plus those things are too hard too control. should we continue risking lives with semi trucks and ban them??? are semis too dangerous for the road?
The ones that agree with EOBRs are some of the same that would agree with banning trucks all together. I just can't believe that people actually believe semi's are so dangerous that they need to be micro managed with EOBrs or someday banned from travel because they are big and dangerous. Cars cause more accidents and deaths each year by a large number but yet they have nothing micro managing them.EZ Money Thanks this. -
I would like to ask a question for the "backers" of the EOBRs. Would you be happy to adapt and oblige to a regulation for CDL holders that states you can not drive a vehicle of any kind for at least 10 hours after your work time ended? Why not? How about a mandate that states any CDL holder must also have an EOBR in thier car to make sure they are not driving over a certain combination number like 70 hours in the semi and only
allow another 10 hours total in his or her personal vehicle? I mean come on its so #### unsafe to operate a semi after 70 hours so why should you be allowed to operate any #### vehicle after 80 total hours? How far are you E-log backers willing to adapt to the bs regs? You can put any spin on the things you want and say you love adapting and it benefits your operation but how far would you go before you realize enough is enough?Last edited: Jan 13, 2013

Well said Volvodriver01!
I hope i retire before they become mandatory! I don't need some dang electronic box telling me what to do....volvodriver01 Thanks this. -
The feds own National Highway Traffic Safety Adminsitration's own figures show car drivers are at fault 75% of the time in an accident involving big trucks. Trucks move everything you can think of. You have a rail line going to every little hick town in the country? They all have airports? How you going to move a 35 ton press from the rail yard to the factory it's going to be in? How will you move a load of gasoline from the refinery to the gas station where you buy your gas? Get real.
Everyone needs trucks so lets stop adapting to their nit picking. I believe all of the studies prove we aren't the ones needing to be controlled by micro managing EOBRs. Take some control over the millions of passenger cars that actually cause more injuries and deaths each and every year. Do the right thing and back off my ###. -
I could care less what system we use to record HOS, but the time isn't right. Fatalities are trending downwards, the economy is in the crapper, increasing government spending isn't the answer.

The eobr units should transmitt violations directly to the dot. In real time not allowing anyone to edit anything . Then the truck could be disabled immediately by remote control . Thus saving the planet from a outlaw trucker.!!
scottied67 and volvodriver01 Thank this.
