Your call. Continued operation runs the risk of a violation and CSA points on your license. Shutting down and calling for service, which is what DOT requires the driver to do, risks ill will with your employer. Despite the fact that the brakes still operate normally without ABS.

I just submitted a Data-Q for an ABS violation that I was issued in Virginia last year. The ABS light was on, signalling a malfunction of the system. I was issued a violation under 393.55(e). Here is my challenge:
We shall see what comes back.kylefitzy Thanks this. -
I'll be very interested in hearing the response you get back, windsmith, as it will be very telling on what the "official" stance is regards that. Here's a snip I got from that MeritorWabco manual that may assist you in your DataQ also, but it also kind of illustrates the manufacturer's understanding of the purpose of it's product. The underlined and bold section below should answer at least one of the questions.

defencerulez and windsmith Thank this. -
I basically going to back up what the others have said. If there is an ABS fault, the mfg tells us we have a non ABS trailer. No big deal but if the DOT catches you they will issue CSA points....not sure if they are attributed to driver or company.
I find it strange that (referencing CAXPT quote) that in the event of a fault, the mfg would design the system so that only one wheel on the axle operates without ABS and the other does. That seems to me like it would create an uneven braking situation. I thought it disabled the ABS on entire trailer but I have been wrong before. -
I really wish people would read threads before commenting. Just saying.CAXPT Thanks this.

Hey, did I say you were wrong? NO. For crying out loud loud all I said was I wasn't sure. Want me to agree with what you said without having first hand knowledge? Ain't gonna happen sorry. Jeez some people are touchy. Want me to delete my post?
-
Not touchy, but I did post my personal experience with an inspection, with this exact violation, and the CSA points showed up on my DRIVER profile.
-
I don't doubt you, but I can't personally say one way or they other. That;s all I am saying.
-
There it is, in black, red and white. FYI, all the violations were for the trailer, and were things that the owner told me to 'roll with'. This inspection forced his hand, but unfortunately cost me some points.CAXPT Thanks this. -
Yep i fix it. i grab the trolly vavle and straighten the trailer out. has worked fine for 50 years for drivers. still works today. people just arent trained on what a trolly vavle is and does and can do.....forget abs just give me a hand vavle....lol
