    I'm in a similar situation
I'm young, single, and have no kids
But it's the opposite for me.
I feel like I don't need to be gone all the time, racking up huge miles
I could spend more time at home, hanging out with friends, and family
And enjoy the money that I make

The problem with not having a place of residence is that legally you can not write off your per diem if you don't have a true perminant residence. If you get audited (which they are doing a lot of lately) and they catch it it is tax fraud.

Why pay for all this? Just take your weekends of at the Grand Hyatt. It cost about the same as paying rent for a nice aparment, or mortgage payment, but you don't have to cook and clean. You have room service, hot tub on the outdoor terrace overlooking the city, indoor heated lap pool, ####tail lounge, fine restaurant. Heck, all you really have to do is arrange an escort for a Swedish massage... jusg a minute... gotta go make a call.

Go buy a small parcel of land, hook up electricity, have auto insurance and electric bill sent to that address, and park an old travel trailer on the land. Presto! You have a home base, plus a real estate investment and place go hunt all wrapped up in one. Do that in a no income tax state and pay no state income tax. That one thing will let you afford taking an extra month off every year to go hunting/fishing or hoeing in Southeast Asia.

Well put skull-leader. With summer closing back in shortly thats the best place to be. Car shows, friends, beach parties, family gatherings, etc..home time becomes even more important with those elements thrown into the mix.

Even when you're single, living on the road will get old after a while. Some people tolerate it, others can't. I could only put up with it for 3 years, because after a while everything starts looking the same. Give me a daycab any day of the week. That way I can go home every night and enjoy time with my friends and family. Of course, I'm not single either and I don't think the old lady would appreciate me taking a OTR position. If I up and told her that "I'm going to drive for CRE tomorrow", she'd likely tell me right off the bat: "I want a divorce".
