Don't want to turn this into an APU thread......but I echo your sentiments on APUs. I hate listening to the damnable things; it's like being next to a reefer sometimes.

True, but not all of us have a large house with a rooftop AC already on it. After the genset, rooftop, wiring and install, if be close to $5k anyways.

I figured at idling 10 hours for 5 days a week (sometimes more) I am burning about $170 a week in fuel. An APU would be much cheaper than that.

    How is a new $1100 honda generator + new Roof AC $800 = $5000?
I know several guys that have put roof AC on Condo and Mid roof sleepers.

Just a question but does your rooftop a/c have the electric heater strip in it also?

It had the heat strip but they go bad quickly and I don't care for them. Cheap and easy to replace ($75) but you have to run the loud blower.
For heat, I use a little floor electic space heater. Quiet and puts the heat low. And I use a block heater for the engine.
Also the gas generator use half the fuel of and actual APU.
The most effecient for heat only is an espar. Works like a camper furnace. I'd like to have one.

Mine does, but after 15 years, it's finally failing.
