Really? I don't know of anyone holding a gun to anyone's head and forcing them to drive when they are tired. I don't think that would fly over at the Dept of Labor, FMCSA, or OSHA. But I could be wrong. Maybe there is a carrier or owner that is holding a driver's wife and kids hostage and "forcing" them to drive. I have been wrong before.

ANY TIME a driver is told he or she will get fired for not doing their job since they won't move the truck that is the same as having a gun held to your head and being forced to drive while tired. Many companies running E-logs expect the driver to move the truck as soon as the 10 hour break is over. If you can't realize and understand this then you my friend don't have your head on straight.

Well, anyone who is WILLING to have that held over their head has no complaints. No one is forced to work for any carrier. After all, I keep hearing about all this driver shortage stuff. I am using an e-log, and NO ONE at the carrier ever dictates when I need to move the truck. Case in point. Took break last night and could have been moving at 0630 this morning. I didn't get moving till 0800. No messages. No phone calls. Typical day. I know when and where I need to be. If they tried to do what you are suggesting, then I would first warn them that this will not happen again. On the second occurrence, I take a hike. I have been with these guys for 5 years now, and they have never called or sent a message on the qualcomm telling me when to move the truck. Made it clear when I came on that nonsense like that would not work. Never has been tried. We all act like adults and we respect each other.

My head is clearly on straight. I learned quickly at a young age what was important, what was not, and what I would tolerate. After Vietnam, it takes a lot more than some idiot in dispatch to "intimidate" me. And I have NEVER been laid off or fired from any job.

I've sat at shippers and got a full 10 hour break, but wasn't sleeping during that time. After I was loaded night dispatch sent a message an hour later "why aren't you moving, you have full hours".

I kindly sent back that in that 10 hour break I wasn't sleeping, I'm now going to take my 10 and my eta was then changed. Then they called me and the guy was getting pissed with me until I told him he wasn't my fleet manager, I'm not safe to drive since I'm tired, and this truck isn't moving until I feel it is safe.

He wasn't happy about it but I decided a long time ago, no one will tell me when to move that truck.

Edit: also, I know there are a lot of companies who would fire you over doing what I posted above. I was 4 months in at that time and was tired of being pushed around and finally said no.

Actually I'm a Rastafarian ..... But that's not the issue. Given your views on emissions regulations you'll do well with what's coming down the pike....... Tks

Many carriers avoid e-logs because they expect drivers to adjust their logs and start driving before their 10 hour break is up .
