I've had a stache since 1968. Would I have to shave it off?

No, just beard and sideburns. Nothing fancy like ## Manchu or Handlebars.

I've been doing tanker for 4 yrs now (QC & Dana-Suttles) and in that time I've only had to load one time. Most shippers want the driver to stay in the truck or in a waiting area while THEY load the tank.

Thanks for all the info on this thread. It gave me an idea what I'm going to be doing at Schneider. I graduate CDL school on Feb 7th and Schneider is my 1st choice. They are hiring tanker drivers in New Jersey and they said they would take me right out of school and reimburse my tuition. I just passed my hazmat and tanker endorsement test and am eager to start driving. Glad to hear your experience was successful.

Hey DelcoTrucker321, did you end up going w/ Schneider? If so, how's it going? I completed CDL school on March 7th & am waiting to hear back from my recruiter to schedule orientation. Schneider is my first choice as well & I applied for a tanker position in NJ.

The good tank carriers only require a year or 2 OTR . Previous tank experience isn't required .
Many prefer to teach new drivers their own methods .

That's what I did at Matlack, took owner operators & new company drivers, all w/ OTR experience & taught them how to load and unload tankers. My boss used to loan the O/O money for a pump and would puting for an 'emergency hire' packet to get the guys truck numbers quick & after a day or two in my Mack while the pump was being installed; the training was in the o/o's truck and he got the revenue for the work we did.

I liked it 'cause most of them had air conditioning and air ride VRS my 1981 camelback sprung 2-60 A/C and armstrong steering R600.

It was a hoot to watch the o/o's discover it was a 'Popeye' truck; once in a while there was one who NEVER drove w/ armstrong steering.

    RickG Thanks this.
