Congrads on graduating! They never told me that there was day and NIGHT classes. How long are the night classes? I might try to continue to work my job while im in school. Was it any cheaper since you didnt need there housing or eat there cold food?

I have heard a lot of bad things about the Hazelwood Campus. Well it looks like what i have hear is par for what you are saying. I live right between there north and south campus. I plan on attending the south campus. How many people was in your class ? I plan on getting my permit before I show up to class ( hoping that will help out). Between that and my 15+ years of driving a class B truck. So you really dont get much road time before you have to take your test. That sucks!!
-
go south! they are running classes starting at 50 people each week now. south has about 8. Both will have a steep learning curve but you will get more wheel time at south. you can stand in the yard all day just to do 2 maneuvers all day. on your road day you get an hour in the morning and then 1/2 after lunch. they sent me to test after my second day on the road even though it was noted I still needed work on the road so i failed the road but passed pre-trip and yard. so I the last three days instead of alternating back and forth I was only on the road so I got a total of 4 hours over the course of 30 hours of class. allot of sitting watching others drive. but they taught me how to do all the yard maneuvers. I almost aced the yard but got two points because i messed up and knew i did so i got two points! They have a lady who used to work for the state doing the DOT tests. She is the pretrip QUEEN! if you work with her and listen to her you will not even worry about passing your pretrip.

Pretrip queen huh? Wow too bad she works up there in Hazelwood. So who are you going to work for? Speaking of that, do they really have recruiters come out like they tell me they do. Right now im considering Stevens and Schneider. Stevens has sent me a pay scale breakdown but I cant seem to get one out of Schneider. Did anybody offer you some insite on what they offer?

Im going with Swift, have to be in Edwardsville, KS on monday for orientation. I heard some rurmors from the stevens people they they are pulling out of MTC after the current group graduates. They do have recruiters coming out but if you are on the night shift or on the road the day they come you wont see them. I was testing when the Shift recruiter came out so I missed talking with her, but I gained some respect for her one of the "free agents" who had school paid for wanted to go with a company that does flatbed I had him call her and she was up front saying they do have a big flatbed division but run mostly east coast so home time would be hard and they would want him to stay out longer. with all the bad things I heard about recruiters I figured it would have been easier for her to say yea we run flat bad finished your mentor training and then apply and then he is disappointed.
sinker Thanks this. -
Thanks for the info on Stevens, I will call my MTC recruiter tomorrow and my Stevens recruiter ask her about that to see if there is any truth to it. Thanks again for your help with my questions.

If I was going to go out of state to a school, I would consider Fox Valley Technical School in Appleton, WI. They work with you one on one. They have an actual driving course with railroad crossings, uphills, downhills and even a skid pad right there on campus. It's not a 3 week course, but you will definitely know how to drive when you get done!

Her class started with approximately 30 people - and as a previous poster stated, EVERYONE is in class 7:00am - 5:30pm the first week. The first Friday, everyone was 6:00am - 4:30pm and then Saturday they split the class.
My wife is struggling with backing up. It appears the instructors are not trying to figure out what is hanging her up from grasping the concept, but she back up my 310" wheelbase truck straightline fairly easy. The only way for the people to learn is by repetition. The instructors have you do one back up, then kick you out of the truck for the next student to try.
As far as the "lunch" is concerned, it's a matter of principal - because, as stated by another poster, the lunch is pretty sad.
