congrats. any positive recognition from your employer or your peers is great. this is a cut throat industry. take the praises while you can get them. i can promise you that getting them is rare. you will hear nothing or negative many more times than positive things. keep up the great work and stay safe.
I won an award for being in the top 5 of my company!

First up Congratulations on your award. I don't want to take away from your achievement but I tend to agree somewhat with some of the posts about it. I have allways thought that any recognition of a job well done is good to see coming from any company. What I think though is that it shouldnt just be linked to miles run and mpg.
Reason I say this is there are drivers out there that might not get the best mpg or do the most miles but are putting in just as much, if not more , effort than the top miles and mpg guy is. Miles and mpg is affected by many things outside the drivers control, such as the type of truck they are assigned or the loads they are hauling regularly. Also the miles run can be affected by the lanes the company keeps the driver in or the drivers load manager.
Im just saying lets not forget about all the guys and gals out here working hard and dealing with crappy equipment or poor load planning etc.
IMHO every single one of us out here working in a truck deserves an award for the job we do. Every one of us has EARNED IT by putting up with the challenges of this job and continuing to keep on truckin regardless of the crap we have to put up with on a daily basis. -

And there is something wrong with them. It teaches kids you don't really have to try, you will still get a trophy just because. Not a lesson I want my children to learn.

I remember when I was told I was in the top 2% of earnings at one company. I looked at my W2, and found another company.
