There are many threads here about this. I believe the most recent one is in discussions about everything. I can give you the quick breakdown on how they all turn out.

There is no federal regulation on carrying a firearm in a truck.

    Yes there is.

Post the link to the law stating this.

    Nothing.

    State laws enter the conversation.

A hazardous cargo law gets thrown in with something to do about ammunition.

    Bicker.

    Enter political views here.

    Bicker.

Almost all companies prohibit weapons in their trucks.

    Bicker.

    Thread dies.

Thread pulled back from the dead with someone's political view on it again.

    Good luck.

There is no federal regulation prohibiting it. There are varying state and local laws though. For instance, it may be completely legal to carry a loaded weapon in a vehicle in Texas, but illegal in Louisiana without a concealed carry permit. Also many companies prohibit firearms in company owned vehicles, and many customers you go to may prohibit firearms on company property.

And the poster that treed me nailed it. This thread will have a useful lifespan of about 3 more posts.

Think of how many different local jurisdictions you will be traveling through. It might be legal at one point of your journey--maybe in Texas--, and then it will be illegal at another point of your journey--maybe in California. You will probably not plan your route according to firearms legalities. And even if you did, I'm sure your company wouldn't appreciate that.

Then you have to worry about your company policies. I'm sure most companies don't allow firearms in THEIR vehicles. Long story short...Leave the gun at home and save yourself the headache. You're already driving the most feared and lethal weapon on the roads so why do you need to pack heat :D

It's not worth the risk, leave the gun at home.

as others have said...the answer generally is no, but it has nothing to do with federal law. it has mostly to do with company policy. most companies will not allow you to carry a gun, and for good reason. theyd be financially responsible for any mishap should they knowingly allow drivers to carry them. not to mention, crossing the border would be an issue, and state and local laws vary wildly on who is allowed to carry. the company wants to send you wherever is convenient, and not have to worry about the differing laws from place to place.

I am an owner operator, so the company policy is mine. I carry a weapon that is locked up in a secure small safe while I am driving the truck. The ammo is kept in my toolbox wrapped in a towel, not to hide, but to keep it clean and out of contact with anything. At bedtime I pull the ammo out of sidebox, insert magazine into weapon, and go to sleep. When I wake up I reverse the process. 18 years like this, zero problems. If asked byDOT or other law enforcement do not lie to them. Do not volunteer the info, but if asked, declare that you are transporting an unloaded weapon that is securely locked up.
