Since those antennas that come on the Freightliners are junk, will Maverick let you mount a totally seperate antenna?

Some guys get their own antenna and then Maverick shop will install it for you. Yes, it can be done. (It will go in the mount of the factory antenna, not a whole new mount)

You need a good ground for antennas on Freightliners, that is 90% of the problem.. Regardless what antenna you put up you will need a good ground for it to perform.
I don't know anything about Maverick so I can't answer your question

I may have seen someone with one of those, can't really remember if it was one of our trucks or not tho. Honestly the cb is not that big of a deal really. Most of us really only use them when we get to a shipper or consignee to check in if needed. Your money is probably better spent on other things, but that is just my opinion and experience.

Mavericks policy lately has been factory mounts only. I would refommend a "ground plane" antenna. These type of antennas are good in situations where you have a hard time getting a solid ground for your antenna.

I have found the factory mounts on this new Cascadia do very well with 3 ft. Firestick antennas...SWR's are fine (1.25:1 in channel 1 and 40)), radio gets out and receives great. Its a peaked and tuned Galaxy 959 (2005 model, 1969 finals)...Its a bit more powerful than stock, I can carry on a conversation at 10 miles easily.

My buddy has a similar radio, he's using 4 ft. Firesticks...same thing, SWR's are 1.25, radio gets out "load and proud".

Its the factory antennas that are junk...the coax may not be the best either, but its not exposed to the weather...should be fine.

A good CB is a handy thing to have, the culture these days has moved away from it some...but the usefulness of a CB is still there (finding out about traffic backups in time to take a detour)
