Going to Central Refrigerated anyone wanna join me?

Are you headed to SLC. I am scheduled for 2.25.13... driving my own ride from a small town in CO. Not only am I scared I am downright terrified. It's not the written tests, its backing a 70 foot behemoth that I am concerned about. PM if your heading to SLC, maybe we can put something together.

 

Don't be nervous. In school you'll have instructors spotting you. Then your trainer during your road training. By the time you'll get out there on your own you should be at least semi confident in your backing abilities. When on your own just relax and take it slow. You'll be alright.

 

My best advised for you guys running to Central, my best advise is this DO NOT LEASE A TRUCK. You will regret it. Most lease programs have a 98% Failure Ratio. And the 2% is people that starve. Go as company driver for a few years and learn the industry. Most new students that get a CDL and truck quit with 3 months. New students last more that 1 Year is a whopping 18%. Do watch what you sign and do not agree to any terms unless you intend to finish it, even if it means you starve to death. They report your history to HireRight and most major carriers DQ you for bad DAC Reports. So be forewarned. And good luck in your ventures.

Backing is easier than you think unloader. You just dont make it harm you or you might be nicknamed Swift. It more in your mind than anything. But you want to learn quick, because if your hauling refer, there are tons of real tight spots to back into.

i leave tomorrow to start I've been studying like crazy taking practice test and acing them so i should do good I've to call the guy i talked to cause my birth thing is different im worry they will turn me down hope not best of luck to you

 

Best of luck to you guys heading to Central! I think you will be very impressed once you get out to Utah! Central is a very good company! My wife and I team drove for them for many years and Central always went above and beyond to help us succeed! That is the number one reason I recommend them. The potential for making good money is there, it is just going to depend on you. It will most likely be a little slow going the first few months until you get used to it and figure things out. Your trip planning is going to be crucial to making the good money so start practicing now! The more you can keep your dispatcher informed and up to date the better you can stack loads and make more miles and money! Be prepared though to not see home that much. You can either make money or have home time but can't do both.

As far as leasing goes its probably best to just put that out of your mind. Once you are experienced enough you will know that leasing is for drivers who don't know any better. There is very little profit margin and it really takes a dedicated, knowlegeable driver to make any money at it at all! Don't sign a lease to just drive a new truck! Leasing is meant for the companies to make money not the drivers. Otherwise if it were profitable the companies would keep that secret for themselves.

My trip to Central is getting closer and closer, and quite honestly I am getting excited. Been pouring over the UT CDL manual every night, just reading it over and over, taking some tests online and in general just trying to prepare myself. I am not worried about home time. In fact I am jumping on this opportunity so that I can escape this small town in CO that I live in. Never seen east of OK, so when (if) I make it into a trainers truck and eventually my own I look forward to seeing the country--even if it is through a windshield.
