I had this EXACT same problem!

my license was suspended for non payment of a no insurance fine. I wanted to get my class a, so I paid the fine and got my license reinstated... However, AZ won't give you a CDL unless you e have a license for the previous 12 months. My solution was to pay my az fine and get my az license back, then move to CA and get my class a permit and my class a license there. No problems for me doing that.

1st question why was your DL in need of reinstatement? Was it suspended? Need those answers 1st. Some suspensions may preclude you getting CDL or a permit.

I'm not too sure on how that law works but I'm sure that won't be a hindrance to your CDL, as long as you stay current with the money. Good luck!

Try not to mention child support problems when applying for trucking jobs. Some, not all, don't want to get involved in pay garnishment, court dates, etc, that they perceive to be on the horizon.

That is an option. You can get a UPS post office box and it will come up as a regular address and you can use this address in the state you which to obtain your license. Kind of a bit of a process but I don't know of many other options in your situation without waiting that year. I live in Florida and we do not have that particular law.

Say you decide to drive for Central and get accepted to orientation and attend their school out in Utah. Once you arrive in Utah you can get a UPS post office box and then once you finish school use this address to obtain your Class A license and also as your state of residency.

If you do a residence change, may as well change to a state with no personal income tax, so you can at least keep more of your paycheck. Get an address in Nevada or Texas or Tennessee, which also puts you in good freight traffic lanes as far as the trucking company knows for home time. As chompi posted, go to a UPS (United Parcel Service) store and get an address & PO Box there. Central Refrigerated would be convenient trucking school since you live in GA now.

You could do the same if you go to their school in Utah; just take a trip through TN or TX or NV on your way there and do the address change.
