Well as you can see I have 4 years experience. I know that central is a beginner company, but I don't have very many choices since it's been a while since I drove 18 wheelers. I've pulled dry van and flat bed, but would like to try my hand at reefer. I enjoyed flatbed, but that seems to have slowed down from the people I talk to and messages I've seen from skateboarders. I know reefers have a slow period from Jan-beginning of March, but for the most part I know their will always be a need to haul food and other haz-mat loads so their can be a diversity of freight. If I don't like CRS I can always move after 6 months-1 year. I've had to hire a few lumpers in my day as a dry van guy, but was wondering if you could tell me how often you have to use them with reefers and when they quote a price can you try to negotiate or is it a set price take it or leave it?

Refer isn't too much different from a dry box... You just have to pay attention to temps, and make sure the unit is running properly and has fuel... As for Lumpers, yep you will get to deal with them, but don't worry about haggling prices... You give them a ComCheck, send the receipt in with your Trip Pak and you get reimbursed... At times if you are bored and the receiver lets you, you can lump your own load and get paid for it... However, you will need to be 'on duty', and for company drivers the per hour is $15... Not sure if its worth the cost in on duty time. We did it when we ran the Cafe' Valley Fleet... It was all baked goods and the cases were light... Plus since we teamed one could use the on-duty hours while the other was in the 'sleeper' (wink, wink)... So we had the hours to still run with... Plus as lease drivers we got a whopping $30/hr!! Hey, it beat doing nothing, we earned $ with no wear/tear on the truck and gave us a little bit of excersise :D

So much fun seeing folks that you have only 'met' on-line... Even better when you have seen them before and liked them, to see them again!! Got to meet up with Momma Mia and Lextec and their daughter... Wish we could have stayed longer, but didn't want to be too pushed on the run... Can't wait until we can do it again though!!

This run out to GA is not the best one we've had... Thought we would avoid some of the weather on 80 and took the southern route (99/58/40)... Well on 40 from Kingman to Flagstaff was a MESS!! It was the most intense snow/ice driving I think I've done... It took ALL night! Twice we were stuck on the road buy other trucks that had stopped on a hill and couldn't get started again... Other times I had to weave my way through stuck trucks... Speed driven was 25mph on most of it... Yeah, not the best time... But I'm proud of myself for doing it :D

Well we are in for some more fun... But hoping not much... We've been SLOWLY loosing coolant... Haven't been able to find a leak... Well now we found it, and are heading to a Freightliner 'service point' (TA)... Wish us luck!!

PS... This last time Gary was able to remove the radiator cap while the engine was running... No pressure... Mmmm... Not good...

PSS... Yes this was double posted :yes2557:

Well we are spending a second night in a hotel... We had a leak in the DEF coolant hose... Not sure what this will do with our loop, but we'll figure that out tomorrow... For now ... Relaxing and watching TV. Thankful the repair will be covered by warrantee :D

Aaaah hotel life! Just gotta look at it as part of the adventure! Kick back and have a beer or go have a romantic date!

Stewey I wouldn't say that Central is just a starter company. My wife and I also teamed for Central and did very, very well there! I also have to say that Central always went above and beyond to help us succeed and never hesitated! Personally I highly recommend them! You are going to have your "goods" and "bads" at any company you go to and Central really has a great "good/bad" ratio! If I knew where you lived I could possibly recommend some other companies too. Check out Craigslist too! I often see some really good gigs posted on there.

Good luck Klingon's! Drive safe out there guys!
