I am currently working for a company hauling frac sand to gas wells (first time in oil fields ) . They run us like dogs until we get 70 hours and then give us 24 hour restart . It was mentioned to me by another trucker that because we get our product from rail cars we should be taking a 34 hour restart . Does anyone know if this is true and where I might find out more information or explanations regarding this matter ? Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated !

Unlike some who are too lazy and arrogant to post the actual answer or references, I'll give you both:

FYI, I'm lazy and arrogant too, but I'll take the time to answer your question and show you where to find the answers. Now I expect you to do it on your own from now on ;)

34 hours. Beginning June 1, 2013, those 34 hours must include 2 periods of time between 1am and 5am.

wow, you really are a trip.

Considering the company should have already GIVEN him that little green book.

Nothing lazy about it either. yes, I have a green book as a ready reference both on my desk AND on my dash.

    (d) Oilfield operations. (1) In the instance of drivers of commercial motor vehicles used exclusively in the transportation of oilfield equipment, including the stringing and picking up of pipe used in pipelines, and servicing of the field operations of the natural gas and oil industry, any period of 8 consecutive days may end with the beginning of any off-duty period of 24 or more successive hours.

But as Wind posted that is changing (or supposed to change on 5/1/13)

Because sometimes helping someone isn't by providing them with the actual answer.

It's pointing them in the actual direction on WHERE to find it. Not finding it FOR them.
