I will start the orientation and training soon with Maverick at Little Rock, can any of the old drivers provide me info regarding Maverick Lease purchase program? Is it work to start your own trucking business?

I believe you must have 6mos as a company driver before you can goto the lease program and your fleet manager must ok it. This is their way of making sure you work hard enough to be ok on a lease. If you arent a decent worker then your fm wont approve you. However they used to allow experienced drivers to hire right into the lease but if you hire in as a company driver you must wait 6mos. The lease is easy enough as long as you can manage a business and make smart decisions. Dont be like some and turn down lots of loads and take too much time off. Im not a real hard worker and i still make decent money but every driver is different.

If you're coming in as a student driver, you have to wait to get at least 1 year experience OTR before they'll even consider you. I recently checked this out myself (although for me, 1 year doesn't matter because they don't offer leases for TCD drivers yet).

That isnt true. Ive seen at least one MavIC on TCD. Ive heard of there being a few over there.
CaptainX3 Thanks this. -
Oh really? Guess I need to talk to someone who knows for sure LOL... who handles that stuff up at the office?
-
Joe Johnson is the one who does the contracts etc. You will need a minimum 6mos at Maverick and approval of your fm (they wont put you in a lease if they feel you wont be successful). Like I said Ive personally seen at least one IC truck pulling a reefer.

Thank you Dan, I'll keep that name. I've been solo 7 months now, at Maverick for a total of 9, but I don't have 1 year of OTR experience yet. And I want to get all the info I can on the lease program and give it a really good review. Even if I'm eligible now, I doubt I'd do anything for several months until I've had a chance to really look into it. As far as I know, my FM is happy with my performance, I asked him the other day when he called me for something and he said I was doing fine. He rarely speaks to me, so I take that as a good sign LOL.
Do you think Maverick would mail all of the IC info to me, or do they have a brochure or contract or something that gives all the dirty details of the program? -
Just go into the office next time your in NLR and tell your fm what your lookin for and he should be able to get it for you. I know they have (or they did) a "brochure" that outlines everything. Getting a sample contract is like pulling teeth but can be done. I know zip about the tcd contract as far as percentages and the like. As for truck cost your fixed expense on the Cascadias they are leasing should be in the $650/wk ball park from what Ive heard from the guys leasing them. That would be your truck payment, insurance, permits, everything that is a fixed expense. Then they take 12% off the linehaul for a maintenance account that tops out at $15K. There is also a "primary escrow" that is taken out at 5% of the linehaul each week until it tops at $2k. Not sure why they need that seperate escrow since they hold so much in the maintenance account but oh well you get it back at the end of your lease plus interest. Imho Mav's lease is one of the better and easier leases in the industry. There are a lot of leases that will lease you a old beat down pos at a really high price,a good example of this is PGT's lease. They lease old (6-7yrs) baby bunk international prostar with 700k miles on them for almost $500/wk! Thats outrageous! Mav's lease trucks are typically in the 375k range so you have plenty of warranty left and the trucks are well maintained.

That doesn't sound bad at all, $650 a week for the works is decent. I've heard many good things about Maverick's lease program. Just out of curiosity, do they have it set up where Maverick pays everything and then they take it out of your check before you get it? Like, do I have to pay cash for fuel, or do I fuel the same way as a company truck does and they take it back from my check? And I've always wondered if IC guys can take any load they find, or can they ONLY get loads directly from Maverick? For instance, if I wanted to get a run to a city we don't normally go to, can I do that as an IC driver?
