I agree on every point. I will admit though that I've been getting pretty frustrated lately with freight becoming more unpredictable and rates dropping. This is my first winter with CRST so I'm hoping things will get better in the spring. I'm still making good money, just not as good as it was.

:biggrin_2559:i was with land star for about 4 years it sad to say but i'm no longer with them due to medical reasons at land star the percentage rate is 73% if you have your own trailer and 65% if you rent one i'm with fikes truck line and not happy i went back to them at 80% of line haul but thy are cutting everyone's % pay by 6% are down to 74% so that means thy are breach the contract I'm looking to come on with crst i have my own trailer & truck both are paid off what do you think would be my net. are would it be worth it to come on I've talked to a crst driver today he says he has been with Malone since 1989 off & on he said that they have loads that pay 3+ dollars a mile is that true he is from winder,Ga. and i live in the upstate SC. and i do know that the good lanes are east of Mississippi river and west of the pa.line and north of the fl.line and if you go outside of these areas to make sure that you git enough $$$ to deadhead to a good area and do not weight leave now time is money git out in march i can go back to land star but you have to have hazmat and i let mine laps not only the new leases that goes on have to put the e-log in there truck which i do not want to do but at land star you can make some $$$$ if you can seat and let the rates claim and they do believe me i can go on & on & on about them there are a few complaints but everyone wants there cake & eat it to

Rates and freight availability are always off this time of year, especially for open deck trailers. It happens every year, but this time things seem particularly slow. Most of us plan for this time of year and act accordingly. Rates and freight availability should begin to improve with spring.

Malone focuses on lease operators. If you own your own equipment good luck. I own my own truck and trailer and couldnt compete with lease trucks. Also Malone agents have many of their own trucks that take the good freight. Not good ....

Yes Mercer sucks also , not nearly as bad as Malone ..... If you like sitting every where go to Mercer. So what's your point ?? You a lease operator or do you own your equipment ??

Crst Malone a couple of months ago, when i spoke with barb in recrutting, malone was running about 82 percent rent to own trucks... That should tell you something in itself... Which i spent
Several years at malone and did real well.. I took 2009,10 and 2011 off the road, when i decided to go back on the road. I bought a low pro stepdeck and leased it back on with malone.. Jan. 24,2012.. It took me about 60 days to figure out that they just did not have a good enough freight base for my type of trailer.. we parted company as friends..

I then leased on with Mason Dixon and almost 1 year later, they have roughly 20 percent direct shipper freight and about 80 percent cheap broker freight.. and I'm about to pull the truck from here...

Now Mercer... I have a 1st Cousin thats been leased to mercer almost from the time they opened up for business.. He still has his 3 digit truck number.. But Cuz, pulls a RGN and he does really well and the fact that he has been there for so long , i think helps out too...

Just my opionion, there is just so many flatbed trailers out here. That there are so many companies and brokers that are bidding on the same chunk of meat and its driving the rates down, and also there are so many owner operators that will load cheap freight.. Me personally ( I WON'T... ) I tell them that i do not have the American Red Cross stamped on my forehead !!
