Finally back at a computer. Thanks for all your support. To answer some of your questions, I have addressed the situation with him, his reply was I'll tell you once in a nice fashion but if I have to address the same issue I'll raise my voice. He is an ex-marine that thinks every thing should be run like such. He also has a very high opinion of him self. Don't get me wrong about the Marines my brother was a Marine and he is no way like this guy. The guy has been a trainer for about 5-6 years. Some times a little positive input can go a long way. Now, I can't be that bad a a driver if he made the comment that out of the 5-6 years of him being a trainer he has only had a hand full of students that he would let drive on snow and ice in their second week of driving. I have requested a differant trainer but I have not heard any thing more from HR. Now that I've been OTR for two weeks and seeing the trouble my wife is having adjusting, a well as myself, I'm not sure I made the right decision. I would at this point like to work locally. The training is a 5 week program. Are any of these an option? complete the training then quit-complete the training and give it a 2-4 week try - or just quit mid way thru the training.

Tell him that you are tired of him yelling at you, and after telling him about it, keep an audio recorder going. It's amazing how people will stop misbehaving when they know a record of their behavior is in progress. If he refuses to let you audio record, then talk to the company about his behavior.

JB- there are very limited options out there for a trainee. You may want to try and contact a few companies; Old Dominion comes to mind, I believe they will hire trainees. They will have you home more often. Also check with the garbage/construction companies in your area; right now, you may not be working, but when things pick up in the spring, you may be able to get in with them.

Otherwise, you will have to stay OTR for at least one to two years to be able to get a GOOD local job. Now, if the company you're with has regional runs, you may be able to snag one of those, and be home more often- after you finish training and get some seat time.
    Good luck!

Continue your training, get your own truck and then start looking for something else.Atleast you would have gone through company training and will not be completly green.Even 3mo of OTR will open doors for you.Atleast thats what I'm told. But you have to get out on your own it will make you look better. You can always tell your next employer it didnt workout and you want to be regional or local. My $.02

Dont quit, get your training, get some experience, then decide what you want to do.

At least your trainer speaks english. haha.... My trainer was allowed to work in the US on a green card. If I took two days off it took me 3 days to understand him again... but after the first day behind the wheel he realized I did know something... so it was basically team after the first few days.. and if you are in the 1st seat... if you feel tired or drowsey... PULL OVER in a safe haven and take a nap.. if the idiot yells at you then simply pick up the phone and call your company and ask for safety.. Tell them you are taking a safety break and your trainer is yelling at you to drive... amazing how the word safety will impact the dispatchers... do not ..do not... do not... feel you have to get a load somewhere for an appt if you feel tired... your life and the others you may roll over is not worth the freight... DOT has provisions for fagtiued drivers... use it to your advange...:biggrin_2554:

Hey...you have my sympathies. I was there. Unless you have been in a confined space with a screamer and live with them 24 hours without reprieve, NO ONE has any idea what a living hell that is. Not sure what company you are with, but from my personal experience, call the company and speak to them, ask for another trainer. DO NOT let this person break you down or force you to quit...you will regret it later when you get home and your head clears and your ears stop ringing. The only thing that has changed from when you started to now is the daily, constant brow-beating you are recieving. Do yourself and the next trainee a favor and report this person. Good luck. And stay strong.

Finish what you start. My father was an ex marine. Nothing wrong with that at all and i have a great deal of respect for marines. I learned to tune out the negative. It is a military type of training that your trainer is giving you. Much of this job is about attitude. This guy has been a trainer for 5-6 years. He is probably pretty good at it. You are learning to drive something that can kill others if not done safely. Your trainer is putting his life at risk training you. Think of him as your drill instructor in boot camp. You will hate him the whole time you are with him but afterwards you will realize what he taught you.

and it just isn't necessary for anyone to yell at another adult or even yell at a kid. It is demoralizing to some people . When you yell at someone , they can easliy start to panic, and in an 80,000 lb. vehicle I wouldn't want any student of mine to panic. Calm is much better and shows that you have respect for your student . Just because he is a student does not justify a boot camp training method. It's not the military.
