Bad Experience with Trainer

Tell him that you are tired of him yelling at you, and after telling him about it, keep an audio recorder going. It's amazing how people will stop misbehaving when they know a record of their behavior is in progress. If he refuses to let you audio record, then talk to the company about his behavior.

 

JB- there are very limited options out there for a trainee. You may want to try and contact a few companies; Old Dominion comes to mind, I believe they will hire trainees. They will have you home more often. Also check with the garbage/construction companies in your area; right now, you may not be working, but when things pick up in the spring, you may be able to get in with them.

Otherwise, you will have to stay OTR for at least one to two years to be able to get a GOOD local job. Now, if the company you're with has regional runs, you may be able to snag one of those, and be home more often- after you finish training and get some seat time.

Continue your training,get your own truck and then start looking for something else.Atleast you would have gone through company training and will not be completly green.Even 3mo of OTR will open doors for you.Atleast thats what I'm told. But you have to get out on your own it will make you look better.You can always tell your next employer it didnt workout and you want to be regional or local. My $.02

 

Dont quit, get your training, get some experience, then decide what you want to do.

 

At least your trainer speaks english. haha.... My trainer was allowed to work in the US on a green card. If I took two days off it took me 3 days to understand him again... but after the first day behind the wheel he realized I did know something... so it was basically team after the first few days.. and if you are in the 1st seat... if you feel tired or drowsey... PULL OVER in a safe haven and take a nap.. if the idiot yells at you then simply pick up the phone and call your company and ask for safety.. Tell them you are taking a safety break and your trainer is yelling at you to drive... amazing how the word safety will impact the dispatchers... do not ..do not... do not... feel you have to get a load somewhere for an appt if you feel tired... your life and the others you may roll over is not worth the freight... DOT has provisions for fagtiued drivers... use it to your advange...

Hey...you have my sympathies. I was there. Unless you have been in a confined space with a screamer and live with them 24 hours without reprieve, NO ONE has any idea what a living hell that is. Not sure what company you are with, but from my personal experience, call the company and speak to them, ask for another trainer. DO NOT let this person break you down or force you to quit...you will regret it later when you get home and your head clears and your ears stop ringing. The only thing that has changed from when you started to now is the daily, constant brow-beating you are recieving. Do yourself and the next trainee a favor and report this person. Good luck. and it just isn't necessary for anyone to yell at another adult or even yell at a kid. It is demoralizing to some people . When you yell at someone , they can easliy start to panic, and in an 80,000 lb. vehicle I wouldn't want any student of mine to panic. Calm is much better and shows that you have respect for your student . Just because he is a student does not justify a boot camp training method. It's not the military.
