You still trying to turn the subject cheap freight is cheap freight if you load it on motorcycle. I don't know what your CPM to operate is but most class 8 claim about 1.60 a mile or somewhere there about. Now if you book a load paying 1.50 a mile you are going backwards no matter how many of these turd loads you put on your trailer. In the end if you have three than all you have is a load of turds. Not to mention time invested and liability involved. So you are still working for free and just don't realize it. Right now my CPM is about .80 a mile or less before I pay myself. So if I get 2.50 a mile going out I can delver and bounce home and still make over 20 dollars an hour basically and not have to fool with the cheap .75-1.50 a mile stuff. You should be glad I only haul good paying freight or you might miss making your truck payment. But in all seriousness when you look at this stuff you should look at the real miles being run and not haul the less than 2.00 a mile stuff the market would then get better for all of us. Being a O/O or small fleet we can't compete with the mega carriers and their business model. Our only weapon is to not accommodate the cheap rates by letting the freight sit and pass it by. But this is probably falling on deaf ears.

    Hmmmmm.......

I usually run the LA to Denver and back lane....

Outbounds are usually $2.50/m and Denver to LA has always been lower...Average is $1.50/m....But I have made up to $2.20/m on some loads back to LA...

If you hold out you sometimes get the rate you want. It happens for me about half the time.
If I call a broker and don't like the rate I tell them mine and leave my number in case they can't move.
I never second guess either if I don't load I have enough money saved to bounce home.

I've been hearing this song and dance for over 30 years. Glad I haven't been holding my breath, waiting for the rates to shoot up.

:biggrin_25523:I got to say it if noone hauled frieght for less than $2.50 then $2.50 would be cheap freight! Therefore, good paying frieght would be in the four buck range.:biggrin_255:

Oh yeah....I can remember back in '09 when rates were real low....Like If you could get $1200 for a LA to Portland OR load you were doing good.....Getting the Riot Act for taking a load from FT. Carson to Herlong for $1.70/m......From a few over at Bronc's thread......:biggrin_2556:
