I just graduated from truck driving school and got my CDL. I have applied to many companies and it seems like every one wants me to get a DOT physical and a UA, even though I already did this and got my DOT card prior to starting school.
I'm really getting tired of filling out forms and filling up small cups.
It seems to me that the requirements to get your DOT medical card should be stringent enough that multiple tests shouldn't be needed.
Any ideas why one test doesn't satisfy all companies?
Why do I have to take multiple DOT exams and UA's

Welcome to trucking Steve. It's standard when you start a company you always have to retake physical mainy to make their insurance company satisfied.Say you drive for a company and quit in a month and start another company, you'll still have to take the physical as well as the drug test. You'll get use to it.
LaBubba and TRKRSHONEY Thank this. -
its the law. all compaines must require and pre hire drug test and physical. DOT requires this.
TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
I have'nt read the new laws,it's always changing but some companies only require the drug test if you already have a recent med card. The smaller cheap poor equipment companies do anyway.

No test is universal and different policy for testing, it would be nice to just wizz once and be accessible but does not work that way.

In Landline magazine there was an article that mentioned starting May 21, 2014 we have to get a physical from a doctor who is listed on a registry that's approved by the DOT. Of course there will be lines of us waiting to get a physical since there will only be one doctor in a particular area. Seems like a legal monopoly.

It would be nice but too many would abuse it then.
mje Thanks this. -
I am with the OOIDA consortium and being random controlled I can be tested at any time so that is near impossible to get around, but something tells me they have people getting around it somehow. -
You shouldn't be doing physicals or taking UA's unless you are attending an orientation for a company. If you are attending an orientation for a company then you should most likely be hired on and not attending any other orientations or filling out any more applications. Therefore the most physicals and UA's you should have done is two each. A physical and UA at your school and depending on the company you choose a UA and sometimes a physical during your orientation. That's it! There will be the occasional random UA while you are employed but that's standard.
