fedex freight is the largest LTL carrier. Hourly pay is higher than most other LTL companies. But for where you are, you willmost likely go to the extraboard and waiting by the phone for work or just be a dockworker who drives a truck every few light years..Most of the bigger LTL's are wringing profits out by loading more and more purchase trailers which means less and less work for drivers. Fedex is also moving alot of their freight on the rails these days..huge jump in rail freight over the last year.

Saia is a smaller LTL,havent heard too much good or bad either way.

Here in Chicago Saia starts drivers out alittle above $21.00hr, Atlanta being a major hub should be similiar in pay.
    Good luck with your interviews

It depends where you stay is all i can think about, FedEx freight is the largest carrier though so if you are in a good location for them it could be that your will be working alot less then other truckers with a reasonable high salary compared to others. Im not sure in which states FedEx uses trucks over trains though.

I have worked for both companies. FedEx works strictly by seniority. I know guys that have been at larger terminals for three years and have only driven two days. More money and better benefits at FedEx Freight. SAIA does not work you by seniority. Seniority is only for layoffs and vacations. You could be there 20 years and if the manager decides not to work you, you will sit home that day. On the plus side, if you are a driver at SAIA, you will drive. Good luck.
