Just a little history for all who dont know or follow any other threads I have

Well for starters I have been with YRC now for about a year. I started last year at a satellite terminal for P/D only. It wasnt a terrible year and they did have me work quite often so they days I didnt, I never cared as It gave me time to do some things I cant do while working. I made decent pay at first, got all my bills together that I was behind in, managerment was decent, and I was still considered a casual till my made the union list after a 100 work days. At first it was all going smoothly, then once the time came when I was on probation my boss started harassing me (Terminal Manager) Although the asst term manager/dispatcher really liked me and would even fight for me if needed, couldnt go to the union because I was not on list. From what I know they wanted to get rid of me before so they dont have to pay benefits on me. But whatever, the asst knew id get the work done no matter what.

After the steward left, the asst manager gave me his old tractor, which was a shocker because they make all the new guys drive the junk heap straight trucks. At that time i was already on the list, they gave me better runs, made a lot of overtime. Then I was put on soft layoff, the first two days I was back they didnt have me in my truck, but I had asked to please use it again and he gave it back. Then one guy comes back from his leave and starts crying about not wanting a straight truck so they took my truck away. Yes I was very upset. AT the same time two dock guys became drivers and bumped me down further. AT the end of the year I was forced to work the night switcher since I was the jr man, but i didnt care because it would give me things to do during day and was still just happy to have a job. The last minute i was bumped, and the first week of the year i was laid off along with 3 others, 1 below and two above.

After the 2nd week they brought one guy back to help on dock, after that he went back t driving and they brought the other guy back for dock. The stewart was hoping to bring me back the following week and nothing happened. About a month goes buy now, I saved my money for this in case it happened. Heard nothing, tried looking for other work. Every job i applied for wasnt getting back or I didnt score high on the test.

This tuesday the stewart called me and said I can send you to the break bulk terminal (about a hour north of me) for you to do line-haul, they have the work and want drivers. He told me you will make more money and that is where its at, you can go up for now and come back or stay there full-time. I chose to stay full-time and he started with my transfer(he didnt want me to leave but at the same time he wants me to work). I figured if Im going to stay out for a night or two the commute wont be too terrible then. Got the call from the stewart up north and he said hes got all the paper work and I just have to sign everything so I can be transfered

Now the reason Im making this thread is because a few of the guys and myself do get a lot of PM's (feel free to PM me anytime Ill help as best as I could) and give everyone an opportunity to see how the life of a driver is at YRC.

The reason it says OUR experience is because theres a few of us who will be doing this thread. And anyone else who works for YRC is more then welcome to post as well.

This goes for switching, dock, line-haul and P/D.

I don't know about New York but I do have a couple drivers that either resigned from YRC or are currently laid off by YRC. I do have a friend that is employed by USF Holland and its totally different than YRC. My wife's grandfather retired from yellow also. I never understood the mentality of the YRC drivers here. I have one that will get called back and work for a month only to get laid off again. He was laid off for two years one time then got called back for two months then laid off again. I guess from my experience with drivers here between YRC and holland it looks like they are trying to run YRC in the dirt. What are your opinions on this. Holland is extremely busy here and from another friend of mine that works for AAA Cooper that you can't pry their customers away from them. How can you have that much difference in two different entities of a company that profides the same services? I am just asking from another aspect of those companies that are in different area. I'm just speaking from what I see and hear from employees here in TN.

hmm well i know USF was its own entity until they were bought out years ago. It also depends at YRC as well. If a dock guy becomes a driver, and they have senority they bump everyone. Happened to me and the other guy when the two guys bumped us, and they were on layoff from the dock. was it a **** move i think so.

If they werent there then maybe both of us would be able to return to work. As for running the company into the dirt, it is quite a possibility. I do know Yellow (YRC) is very stubborn and will refuse to let anyone buy them out or taken over. A lot of road drivers get layed off during the slow season. everyone i know on here is now back or has been called back. For me Im not sure what the fate of the company is but I will stick it out for the mean time. I hope we dont go under, not just for me but because I dont want anyone else to lose their jobs

This is my second time driving for yrc. I got laid off in 2007 but loved the job, so when the opportunity came again I didnt even think twice. I think we're in much better shape than four years ago.

I sure hope so, Even though if something better comes up and i dont have the job anymore, I really really really dont want everyone to lose their jobs. Thank fully they are calling everyone on layoff back to work. If it wasnt for those idiot dock workers who wanted to drive I would of never been on layoff. But it was a nice vacation and I get my transfer i have been wanting

I just hope YRC doesn't do what Conway did to Consolidated Freight. It seems to me that Reddaway is busier than the other YRC companies out here on the west coast.

Nothing really. Back in 1999 they did in (CF) Consolidated Freight. That was the best job I ever had. Well actually CF did in CF since Conway was CF. From what I got out of it all was CF made some sister non union regional companies back in the 50's. Once they got big enough they started routing all their freight through them and crushed CF. Then they combined all of them and and named it Conway. Of course this is something I heard in 1999 when CF went under so don't quote me on it. I'm pretty sure you can find a thread on here somewhere talking about it.

dont even get me going with CWF. I drove for them two years ago and the made me almost file bankruptcy.

I dont think YRC is capable of doing what CWF did too CF. New Penn and Holland are both union companies. IF they were planing on it then they wouldve start to bring Reddaway to the Northeast where New Penn is.

Congrats on getting back! Yeah we are busier. Talked to a YRC driver in my area they went from 50+ drivers to 14 road I believe. He was asking if we needed drivers cause his runs been getting cut. He been their for awhile too. We won't take them unless we go union. Which alot of their drivers will jump into our company and keep their seniority and bump people who are busy to not working at all. I'm afraid I might be one of those people hit by that. I really don't want to be union alot of our drivers actually don't want it either. I've been in the union before so I'm not a hater. I just know the outcome at my yard, I will leave if I'm not working.
