I love those who leave the signature blank on the bank, thinking that the cashier is going to ask to see some ID. It is worse to leave the signature blank, if anything, write "Check ID" on the back. It is funny to see how many never look. I used to work in Banking and Retail and would always look...if something was fishy, I would always ask for ID. No one really gave me a hard time, in fact, many thanked me for it. I like the story told by NASCAR driver Ricky Craven, he went into a store, paid for an item using a NASCAR themed credit card with his face on it and the guy asked for ID. :biggrin_25513:

They don't sign the back???!!! Are they nuts??!!!!!

If you read the fine print, the card isn't even usable without a signature on the back. Don't they tell retail people that????? Sheesh!!!!!

I can see you definitely asking for ID if they didn't sign the card. From what I've read of the statements, though, you're not supposed to accept a card without a proper signature on the back.

    Oh, my...

I've tried to argue that fact before and just gave up.

A signature on the back of a card is worthless. With today's ID theft running rampant that doesn't mean much.

I don't sign my cards, and rarely get asked for ID. About as often as when they are signed.
At times I've had a card that said plainly on the sig line. CHECK ID. Only a few more clerks ask for ID than when it isn't signed. That signature line is worthless.

While I agree somewhat, I want you to take out a card and tell me what it says above or below the signature line. Technically no one has to accept a card that is not signed. You would not stand a chance if someone was really looking to be a ball buster.

You are correct on what it says. All I would do is go out to the car/truck and sign it and go back in and tell em you found another card to pay with. Most clerks are paying attention enough to tell its the same card.

Hey aloota places dont copy they have little scanners that are specifically for driver license's
its not the fact that their scanning it or copying it its the fact that who knows how this information will be used and secured .
as for why. when you release 20 -100k dollars of valuable freight if it was yours you might wanna at least have a photo record of the individual taking it.

Yes in the USA if your card is not signed you must show ID and if they feel anything supicious they can ask for your id card/licences.

Many things now a days require and ID.:biggrin_25524: Canada may be different because of the screening across the border, however keep in mind I went to Canada a few months ago and I accidentally got in the (lane that allows drivers to show a card and go) and I explained I was following the other car and I am in the wrong lane and she not as much asked for my ID, now what if I was a terrorist or a criminal? I just got into Canada with NO PROBLEMO! I was happy it happened, however the thought of it could be scarry for some of you in Canada:biggrin_25525:

I do agree they don't ask like they should, it's these clerks that don't get paid crap and really do not care if the company gets ripped of or not. However the point was/is that ID is required for many reasons and if I was giving someone a million dollar load or a high dollar load I would ask for ID to!
There is just to many criminals out there catching on how to run in and say they work for JB (example only) and get the load and run and not be known for hours. :biggrin_25524:
