Like I said I'm still employed here, there already being crappy enough to me since I turned in my notice I don't need to give them any thing else to be crappy to me over. I was told not to turn in a notice by some other drivers at the company, they said they would screw me, but I'm kinda old school so I did. I've never quit a job without two weeks notice before, I guess it bit me in the ##### this time.
As for the trailer fixing itself, I didn't think that would happen but sometimes when you first hook to a trailer the ABS will come on but once you get going down the road the light will go out. At least I've had it happen in the past. And to answer your question yes I did crawl under there with a flashlight, twice. Two of them are leaking, or have been seeping for quite a while, one of them is seeping.
As for why i drove it. I have gotten almost no miles this week due to sitting in Waterloo with an oversize load for almost two days waiting on the roads to clear. By the time I got this load tied down it was around 8pm Fri. night. The first stop was 150 mi away I had to get it off first thing Sat to make the second stop by noon. That way I could get over here to MN for Mon morning and try to salvage some miles for the week. (They pay you by where your sitting Mon. morning) I knew I would have time Sun. to get it fixed, so I figured I'd do it then. I'm not completely unreasonable when it comes to bad equipment, I will pull it till I can get it by a shop, as long as it's not something major, and I know I can get around the scales.MJ1657 and volvodriver01 Thank this. -
I got written up for an ABS light being on when going through a scale in VA. After reviewing the regulations, I found that an ABS light that is 'on' continuously is working properly. And the regulations only require that the light be working properly. The only regulation regarding proper operation of the trailer ABS is at the time of annual inspection, according to the regulations.
I submitted a Data-Q challenge to the violation, and within two days I was notified that it had been removed from the inspection record.
So, leaking wheel seals put the trailer OOS, ABS light on, get it repaired at next opportunity.
If this were me, and the company was giving me that much hassle, I'd have filled out a DVIR noting the defects on the trailer when I stopped for the day and submitted that DVIR to the company. The trailer would not have moved until those items were fixed. Would they retaliate? Probably. But a driver has legal recourse against the company for any retaliatory behavior.
I really encourage you to report the company's maintenance shortfalls to the Feds. These companies can run cheap and drive the rates down because they're cutting corners which makes it difficult for those who are doing things the right way.starsonwindow and j3411 Thank this. -
you did the right thing and no you were not being to picky. hope you made more money in the fight game than i did. 20 an 2 record most money i ever got was 50,000 and wound up with about 25,000 after everybody was payed off. keep our left hand up and keep on trucking

If the seals were just seeping, it is not going to hurt anything. If they are leaking a little, run it and when they heat up they will expand and seal off the leak. If you look around the wheel/brake drum and there is oil splattered everywhere, then you have a problem. As far as the ABS light goes, they mess up all of the time. We have had multiple trucks/trailers that we have had to replace the ENTIRE ABS system and the light still stays on. When I say entire, I mean ABS valve, TCS module, all ABS wheel sensors, and the ABS ecm. We would even send them to Volvo (probably the problem) and they couldn't get the light to go off. With that being said, I don't really give the ABS light much attention. And, believe it or not, the ABS light problem can be caused by your pigtail. A lot of pigtails are not set up for ABS if they are older/cheap pig tails. Thats why we started buying a 200ft roll of pre-wired ABS pigtail wire and started building our own.
