what are some docks you been to that were a Mo-fo to back into??
    1) West Philly on Grays Ave. Very tight, on way street, bad neighborhood, low clearance 500 feet ahead, so there is only one way in and one way out. You had to blind side in to the dock and the dock was up a hill, so it would put alot of pressure on the drive train. There was only 2 docks to this warehouse and the owner would park his truck near it, adding more for an obsticle..

So what are some tight docks you had to back into, that were a nightmare?

Wasnt a dock but was along a set or railroad tracks. Co. Rd 2000 and highway 33 just outside crete ne. Talk about a nightmare. Gravel road barely wide enough to get a truck and a car down, blind side 90 degree in the mud. Cut it too much and you back up the bank. Cut it too little and you back over the tracks. And the ditch on the west side of the road has a 3ft drop off. Ditch on the east side has a 2ft drop off. Blocks, nails, rails, all kinds of bs to back around and of course your on railroad property. Major pita and we all came out about 1000 over gross for 20 miles before all the mud fell off our trucks. Dont know what was worse getting backed in or pulling out. Turn to get out was so tight you had to take the service line off to keep it from tearing it apart. 3 point turn to get out all for a load that paid $400

The old AM General truck plant in South Bend had dock 51. It was in the basement, and you had to back down the ramp, into a dark cave, to hit it, all the time praying your air pressure didn't drop enough to lock the brakes.

The one that comes immediately to mind for me was some foodservice warehouse in Charlotte, NC (Sysco maybe?). They were supposed to send trucks to the dock so the farthest dock would dock first and then go down the line because there was a guardrail in the front that made it impossible to dock if there were trucks in both surrounding docks. Needless to say, the night I was there they screwed up and I had to back in between 2 trucks. It was the only time in my 7 years that I was unable to hit the dock. Eventually, the driver to the right came back out of receiving and unhooked his tractor so I could back in.

Places like that make you wonder how bad they actually want their freight.

I know the truck was about 6 to 8 inches on the wall side and the drivers side I couldnt open the door all the way I had to squeeze myself out. Then the customer goes hey u did it we were saying that the dock is made for bobtails and doubles aint no way he gettin in there. I just looked puzzled and said it took 50 gallons of lube to get that thing in here whose gonna pay for that ? Then we all just laughed about it.
