If the ECM is on it you could take the ECM to a dealer. They should be able to scan the ecm seperately and get all the info from there.

It is a 3116 or 3126, not a C-12, they had 3 valve covers. Whether it's a 3116 or a 3126 depend on if it's mechanical or electronic, need to see the other side. Does it have a HEUI pump or injection pump?

I had to go looking on sis for some conformation, it is a 3116, the intake manifold tells the tale. The 3126's I looked at had cross flow heads on them.

I do not have the ECM, I believe its electronic but I dont know why I think that? I will go take a pic of the other side. If I ever determine what it is, how do you determine the HP? I'm at a total loss with these Cat engines, I intended to buy something with a blown engine to put this in???? Any idea why this one has such a strange number that seems to be out of the regular format?

The 3116 was usually rated at 350hp and is for meduim duty trucks, not class 8 trucks. If you mean why is it a 3116 and not a C12 or C15 or 3406.. that's because it's a small bore engine

i think(someone correct me if im wrong) that .020 means the crank was recut so the bearings are .020 thicker. i really dont like a turned down crank, but it is a common thing to do after a spun bearing or to clean up a crank on the bearing journals.

You are correct. Absolutely nothing wrong with a turned crank as long as it was ground right.
